On reporting hackers

(Deleius) #1

So i just read this thread: http://forums.dirtybomb.com/discussion/36082/hacker

with this answer from a mod:

"Not sure why you posted even though you know of the naming and shaming rule. I’m locking this thread.

If you suspect a hacker all you need to do is report them yourself in-game. it’s a bad idea to go around publicly shaming people or trying to get extra reports, if they legitly hack they’ve probably got a lot of reports from others that have actually played against them."

What about players, who openly hack and advertise for a website that sell those hacks, while killig everyone on the server in just one shot? This is not a case of just suspecting anymore.
A “certain steam-groub” (to quote Shoe) was banned after several players made that group “visible” over on reddit.

Is there a way to send the devs account-names via message or other way so that they can shut those accounts down and look upon those selling website?

The devs are busy on content on the game and don’t need to spend their time trying to ban hackers. If that’s all they did then we would never get more stuff #ripturtle

It sucks, but the best thing you can do is report in-game and wait. Tbh, hacking in DB is pretty scarce. I’ve run into maybe 5 legit hackers after 400 hours. That’s pretty damn good. I’d rather the devs spend their time fixing bugs and creating content then banning the hackers that we rarely run into to.

I’ve been playing this game since about 2016, I’ve come across only a handful of hackers or at least people who I had no doubt had cheating.

The problem with naming and shaming is without actual proof or evidence a lot of the time people just accuse and shit hits the fan.

Easiest example of this is being accused in game when you know you don’t cheat. All of the sudden a band wagon starts, and if you don’t have good or reasonable people there to back you up you’ll get kicked out.

This is why I don’t make accusations publicy, I don’t want a witch hunt.

(Ardez1) #4

Indeed. It is as watsyurdeal states.

(Deleius) #5

Yeah “witch hunt”. Just watch this example taken by another player what’s happening (1:33min.):

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/65mjqd/more_cheaters/ In another video you can see the advertised site.

Or this 2nd video:

I wanted to report that guy in the 2nd video. But noone cares, no reply that anyone is watching/reading what is happening; now this is going on for over 10 days. But sure, trust in that shity report-system. You see how good it works.

no one is going to give you an “attaboy” for reporting, they don’t get acknowledged, you ain’t special

(Nail) #7

seems you and our resident snowflake have taken umbrage with my tone, OTB.
hack reports are never acknowledged, why you expect someone to personally reply to you about a report is beyond belief

Here’s a snapshot of what you meant.

I know the high level guy on the other team tried but the other team is just not cohesive enough to hold the defence. Top 3 players there knew what needs to be done and knowing that there’s at least two snipers in our team, I planted where they can be at stand-off distance and well enough, sorrx stood his ground and was able to keep them at bay from afar. Teamwork delivered, even at 370+ms ping. In my books, it’s outright crazy… but YOLO. In all honesty, it’s something I cannot do consistently because of high latency and of course, DPC stacking so coming in mid or 3/4 of the way in first half of a stopwatch match and working my way up is the best strategy I can employ.

Accusations came flying fast but the other guy just doesn’t realise other things in play. Laying out the right crossfire for a push is also a key element in the game. Not to mention, the game sense (distinguished from common sense).

I’m not saying there are no hacks out there. It’s just that the hacks in the right hands are hardly indistinguishable from real skill. And like I said before, it doesn’t worry me for blatant cheaters to use their hacks… reliably, they get caught. It’s the closet cheaters that you should be weary of, and they know to get around the system.

First and foremost reason for limiting posting videos/screencaps/profiles of these people advertising scummy cheat sites openly;

You are doing their advertising work FOR them by continuing putting them out in the publicity.

I’m not accusing OP right now, but theres so much of posting about these cheatsite advertisers around, that I refuse to believe its all under good will and naïve thinking, some of these people have something to gain from acting like a “concerned citizen” and advertising said sites further. Just a thing to keep in mind.

Stop giving these sites free ad space in the official forums of the game. Report in-game (you are even given space to write down their actions in more detail, say they are advertising a site), send SDs customer support an email if you’re concerned of site advertisers, anything else through more invisible means than screaming into megaphone here.

(Deleius) #10

I made a topic in the off. forums and asked if there is way to cantact SD directly, so that i can give them the url of the selling site and the steam-account name of one of the advertisers - without making it public. I waited for over a week (10 days) to hear anything but there is ZERO reaction on SDs site: Not a sigle Dev, the comm-manager or even a mod looked into it.
Thats why i replied on the post again.

As you can see it does not work / help. The same person is cheating over two weeks and nothing is done against him and there are even more of those guys from “that side”. That’s why i have linked the videos and threads here. So that SD sees that their beloved system is not working.

But i guess picking their favorite crosshair is more important than keeping the game clean / healthy.

your inability to understand how anti-cheats work doesn`t preclude you from following forum rules

(bontsa) #12

Nail puts it bluntly, but has a point. “This guy’s been around for week and is not yet banned” is not an arguement against anti-cheat having ceased completely from functioning. Cheaters come and go, for example some ACs execute bans in waves, one reason being in order to make it harder for actual hackers (ones who make these scripts) to troubleshoot what got them detected this time around.

Just because person X reports person Y might not immediately result in a ban no matter how obvious the cheat is. It might not even be beneficial to immediately ban them. They could instead collect traces of the software being used by these script kiddos and once found, ban everyone found utilizing programs similar enough. Why’d they waste resources handpicking growing amount of individuals one by one over the course of months when they could endure a few “fresh sprouts” for a week or so and get rid of multiple of them at once. These processes take time obviously, ie. in order to avoid false positives, just to mention one reason. Theres no such thing as undetectable cheat but also no such thing as inpenetrable anti-cheat.

I have no idea what kind of a thread you made about directly contacting SD, but keep in mind my previously mentioned reason why posting about these sites publicly is not a good practice. You sure you didn’t fall down into that trench there again? And surely there should be some contact address on their home site. If not, then they should step up in that game. Then again, enthusiasm is a virtue I guess, but I’d think its enough to mention this advertising in the in-game reports to give more detailed information about the issue at hand.
