On Competitve Matches

Let me start by saying that SD had a step in the right direction by adding a credit incentive to playing in competitive, but it’s simply not enough to keep the ranked scene alive. A credit incentive is not enough to keep players in ranked. Due to this, people don’t play ranked simply because people aren’t playing ranked… I believe this was in the survey that Faraleth did a while back, but the real incentive would be special skins and trinkets (which I praise SD for giving a pre-season trinket).

Having the rank scene being dead and the effect it has is easily visable in pub lobbies. The higher skill level players have no where to turn to and the newer and more casual base is smashed game in and game out by these players. This lack of focus on competitive is the very reason this game is so unbalanced and starting to lose its playerbase. Steamcharts gives a good graph of the playerbase over the past few months. While the peak players have stayed about the same, the overall active playerbase has dropped and only climbs when an event like WtD or CW comes out.

Please SD, do the entire playerbase a favor and add a better incentive to comp. 50% extra creds isn’t enough to keep anyone interested. I know that credits are meaningless to me, and anyone that is higher in the comp scene probably feels the same way. We have all the mercs we need, and trade-up money is not enough to justify hopping into ranked. Not to mention we have all the bronze cards or above that we have cared to get at this point.

I say that they should advertise the IML and DBN more through the ingame menu with the feed they already have there. That would be a simple yet effective start

I’ve always said the loadout system needs to be overhauled, with skins/comestics different from weapons and augments. Making skins and cosmetics earned from playing Ranked matches would be a huuuuuge incentive to give it a shot

Trinkets for number of hours played in competitive would actually be a decent reward on top of the extra credits. That way players who don’t care about the credits can play competitive to get the trinkets. It could be the same system as the What The Dickens trinkets where you get rewarded different trinkets as you accumulate more hours of competitive/ranked matches. This also gives an incentive for new players to play competitive, and even if those players are not that good and lose a lot, they can still get the reward (instead of a reward based on wins only). I guess you could even have a trinket for a certain number of wins too.

I’d like to play ranks. Not because pub games are easy to me, they are not.
I would like to play ranks to experience the fun there.

I’m not a so called “Skilled player” or “Talent” but I always try my best, still have a lot to learn and the competitive scene seems like the right place.
I also think that that’s is the right place to meet good friends too.

I’d better look for an italian team since, my spoken english could not be enough for good communication, and, I’m aiming at having, mostly, fun, doing well and try my best of course, but having fun is vital. no fun no pArty.

If ranked/competitive matches is not that, let me know.

For me, I think the biggest obstacle that makes people not playing Rank is FF mode on.

It was the hardest thing to get used to, as I’m 100% pub player due to the environment I had, Asia comp dead.

But since DB has not that many population like CS:GO has, I think more advertisement for this game might be another solution for that. Comp player base will always stay low, as the largest part of the game population will be always the pub, so increasing the whole amount of people will gonna solve this I guess.

Really, DB deserves more fame than this.

Great. They could tell that to everyone. I mean - I’m here, I’m reading patchnotes and I missed that. Imagine how many players play DB but don’t read patch notes, not to meantion they don’t use forums.

If they want to convince people into playing comp, they should make it rewarding AND make people know about it ; )

Also, a very good idea would be an event. Competition weekend or something like that. Big prizes, big advertising of comp mode. After such event some people may stick to comp.

Maybe what if Elite’s will be able to choose a free loadout card in cobalt, or an elite case.
Also I feel like supporting the pro scene with funds or something would help the pro scene, I was thinking maybe have a special obsidian of 1 of a kind that is only given to the #1 team in the world but that is for the pro scene.

At this point in time, while I do agree about the points OP makes, I still think pub is where the game is. And to fix the player retention, all they need to provide is new maps.

Lots of them. Imagine 20 maps for each game mode with 20 final mercs and you will have players never leaving their computers, no matter how good or bad the competitive scene is. But the game might have to end in ranked eventually more or less I guess.

I’m by no means any good at anything and I don’t think anyone would enjoy my company in Ranked, if anything I might be the achilles heel in the team and would make the whole team lose, so nobody would want me there. But I would give a shot to experience how things are if they improve it.

Here’s my suggestion. First, lower the default rank from Gold 5 to Silver 5, and then implement a seasonal reward system like this:

If a player completes enough games to be given a rank, whichever one it is, they get a random bronze card drop at the end of the season. If they get to Gold 5, then instead they get a random silver drop, at Cobalt 3 they get a random gold drop and at Elite a random Cobalt drop. Sure, giving someone a cobalt is pretty huge, but not that many people make it to Elite anyway, and with a lower base rank like that it would be even harder.

I’d like this a lot, anything to get these people to play more, so I can actually find a ranked match without waiting half an hour.
