Oh, because I talked about Phantom recently, I decided to return attention to this thread. Why?

-Splash Damage, it was fairly stupid to make Phantom’s melee weapon selection be more… heavy. Look at how many people think that was a stupid idea.
-The Katana is usually for making builds with better augments. Some of the Season 2 builds successfully made suitably powerful builds, which I think a thread should be made to cover what builds could truly be considered useful vs stuff that is mostly trash.
-Finally, what forums did you listen to when you made Season 2 like this? I don’t know where the approval for this pathway came from.

And I can bet that someone would flag me for abuse regarding this thread. Past the point of caring about that though.

Quite a few people are unhappy with the phantom changes in a whole. Especially the people who would run’n’gun and use the cloak to absorb damage rather than being “invisible”.

Sadly Splash Damage decided that phantom should take more of a melee approach, emphasizing this with his ability rework, that needs him to get close, having the cloak on a minimum 7s cooldown and giving every single card a katana or bat.

I personally don’t touch phantom anymore since his rework, as my playstyle got completely destroyed with it.

Seriously, go play Kiratana if you desperately wanna get the taste of Katana.

Phantom shoulda had a stealthy firearm instead of katana.

I don’t think that’s entirely true, the two playstyles can co-exist, the silly folk who are quite happy to get one s word kill then die can run alongside the covert first strikers who really rile people up. I’m doing just fine as a blishy run and gun pantone. Besides, the EMP field is actually pretty wide, certainly near a good range to take the first advantage shot at someone.

Yes, in theory they can, but right now in reality they can’t. The 7 second minimum cloak cooldown hinders you just too much.

Where’s the knife loadouts, pray tell? Back in Season 1.

The knife gives Phantom the mobility he needs to be constructive and helpful on defense.

yup i have the same. Phantom suddenly shoot up to my 4th most played merc after i discovered the glory of kek+doubletime+sneaky+enigma.

Haven’t been touching him since the update either.

Eh… I never saw in my entire life a Phantom with a cricket bat, but from my re-search the Katana and the Cricket bat have the same movement speeds of 97.5% , but the Katana has more range than the Cricket bat with 1.2% when the cricket bat has 1.15% range, the Cricket bat is much faster than the Katana with a rate of fire of 110, and the katana haves one of 76.
The Cricket bat’s quick melee does 55 damage, and the Katana does 60 damage, so technically you can 2 shot a merc with 2 swings, but the Katana can 2 shot mercs with 120 health, and the cricket bat can 2 shot mercs with 110 health. So basicly it’s your choice with one to use, if you want high damage but low rate of fire than go for the Katana, if you want a lot of attack speed but low damage then go for the cricket bat. But imp, Phantom is great, even if he does have a katana or no.

(Assuming that you are talking about the idea for a thread related to what Phantom builds are better than the ones before…)
Just because a build could be considered “good” compared to others for that class doesn’t mean that the class is good.

Same, I still use the knife loadouts but all the changes completely kill any enjoyment I have with him. Keep thinking I’ll pick him up again, but I never do for more than a single game. He’s still garbage tier.

Actually, i’ve been wrong, i saw a phantom with the cricket bat, and meh, he wasn’t so bad.

I have no problem massacring teams with Phantom. The cool down isn’t terrible and I usually end up slashing at groups then mowing them down with the kek. The chopper augment makes him amazing, one-shotting Poenixes all the live long day.

Personally I think he’s a lot more fun and challenging and cheeki breeki this way, being a weak ass bitch in a gunfight.

I personally perfer the older Phantom with the cloaking having armor over the emp, but at least now i can mow down camping Auras with the same katana.

Consider this: we’re asking for balance so he’s useful against actual good players, and not public. Anything works in public, and if you can’t aim the KEK to the point where you have more success with melee then something is clearly wrong.
