Old questions one year later

After sum players tested the game at Quakecon, i wonder if old Q&A are telling truth -

http://brink.chefenco.com/gigantic-brink-qa-with-richard-ham/

Q: Will the main gunplay be like ET (hitscan tracking weapons) or will there be more of a mix of guntypes, like point and click shotguns or rifles?
A: As for the guns, there’s a mix of gun types, but i’ll admit my ignorance and say i’m not sure what you mean by hitscan. do you mean moddeling the actual existence of bullets? we’re not doing that. there’s a wide variety of guns though, more than in either ET game.

Q: Hitscan means if you aim at the target it hits immediatly. Rocketslaunchers, riflenades, nades are the opposite of hitscan, as they have an inbuilt ‘delay’ while the projectile travels along its path.
A: Ahha! so I guessed correctly! Yup, the majority of the weapons fire that way (instant impact). there are a couple of grenade launchers though (one is shown as part of the demo we’ve been showing).

Q: Can we expect similiar gameplay to ET and RTCW. Fast objective gameplay. Requires more tactics instead of aim.
A: Yes, but i’ll have to say it now, Brink will not be as fast as W:ET (see my earlier comment about trying to make a game with as broad an appeal as possible). But faster than the norm, I’d say. And very deep

Q: Will there be ET/RTCW spawntimers & selfkilling?
A: All the normal rules and tactics you’ve come to expect from ET will be in Brink

what would you like to point out about these Q&A’s you’ve highlighted?

I mean, is the game work as Richard Ham told? What is the core of the game? In all previews Iv seen ,people talking about TF, COD, Mirrors Edge, but nobody telling “Brink have ET shooting style”.

Possibly because those playing are mostly console orientated and haven’t played ET.

That’s why I want to know the opinion of people who played brink at quakecon, is it feels like a game from guys who give us ET and ETQW or its just a clon of highly popular titles such as COD, and main objective is good sales on x-box. Do SD realy care about the small group of ET and ETQW fans, knowing – no big money there. Logical SD don’t need a ET fanbase coz they going to a much bigger console market, and ETQW has 6.1 rating on x-box and 5.3 on PS3, so the “game from guys who give you ETQW” will not work well.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

So instead of a clone of one game, you want a clone of another game? Wait a month, i’ll be playing it at EuroGamer Expo in London.

I don’t want ET 2 or ETQW 2, but the thing is – u cant just make a brand new game from 0 to 100. Developers always take core of a game from previus titles , COD – CS , ETQW – ET – RTCW – Q3, Bulettstorm – Painkiller , BFBC2 – BF2 etc. But im not sure about Brink roots, can ET core posibly work on x-box or PS3. Brink is not ET clone for sure – weapons(COD), style (TF2), Customisation(APB), movement(Mirrors Edge), Perks(COD). In the end – do we have any ET stuff in game? Yes, class system, but Richard Ham said “All the normal rules and tactics you’ve come to expect from ET will be in Brink”, and that means a lot more then just same class system, so he just lied or what? He means tactics in promod? Anyway i will be waiting for your reports.

That was not among the answers in portion of the Q&A you’ve highlighted. Read the actual answers, not the questions.

Forgot how amusing that interview was.

ET style objective gameplay. No other game is similar. The “brilliant” rush mode (according to one XBox magazine) of BC2 is a poor imitation.

Simpler questions for those who played Brink demo at QuakeCon 20010 or PAX 2010: in following aspects Brink more like COD/notET/etc or more like WET/ETQW ?:

  • movement
  • aiming
  • shooting
  • combat tactics
  • et cetera

PS: sorry for my very bad English))
