old fan, new here

hi

my name is sven, im 27 years old, live in germany and im an oldschool shooter fan. i started with duke3d over to quake, quake2, half-life, quake3, long time nothing, then wolf:et, bit of doom3, quake4, et:quakewars, bit of cod4. now im waiting for brink

i also was very active in the doom3 modding scene. i designed some levels (you can check out some old screenshots in my blog, see signature), created a few custom textures. i actually startet leveldesign with duke3d and stuck with it a long time.

then there was world of warcraft and everything fell apart.

now im back in the shooter scene and at the moment theres only one game i want to play. its brink! (mw2 hype didnt get me luckily)

hm, what else. im also a big music fan. i listen to a lot of stuff. mostly tool, a perfect circle, acid bath, nine inch nails, peach, soulfly, sepultura, kyuss, rage against the machine, colour haze and a few more i guess.

great to be here. theres so much more spam to come, so i can make sure you guys over at splash damage create a good game

cheers.

thanks.

well, i have my problems with the quake3 radiant. the patch handling is awful when you want to build something very detailed. love the doom3 radiant though. you can build almost everything with patches without having any cracks or stuff like that.

its been a while since i build something though. im thinking right now, i have to train my abilities again and apply for a job at splash damage. london is such a nice town and working there with people who do the things every gamer likes would be just sweet. but well, thats just a dream

Dreams are ambitions… ambitions you need to pursue. The most important thing is to endure… you should listen to Alfred from Batman, he knows best.

Anyhow, you have the advantage of living relatively close to the UK (<-> Germany).
I’d say, believe in yourself and do what you love to do most. If that means a future at the SD HQ, I’d suggest you deepen yourself into their culture (checking who they are by sniffing around in their website) . Their staff interviews give you a lot of information about how they got in:

When you think you’re ready… there’s the ultimate test:

And of course, there are quite a lot of SD people wandering around here too, most likely willing to help, when there’s enough motivation.

  • oh… and adopt a tapir
