Old dogs for fun

(pr0nflakes) #21

44 here.

Played only three games online in my life… RTCW, W:ET and now DB.

Preordered Brink but Demo was a fail. Original DVD still original sealed in a drawer. Same with ET:QW.

30+ is “real old”? Oh boy… :frowning:

(x3mytiz) #23

W:ET - the boss of all FPSs! ET:QW was enjoyable to play. Maybe it’s only me, but i like big maps (this is why Dome it’s my favorite map). Brink, after great expectations, worst disappointment ever!
Those three plus DB make four online games I ever played.

Irony  For the majority of the gamers - just ask these kids - you will feel imidiatelly much older. And the fact, that we are talking on the forums of the game Dirty Bomb - tells everything. We are still kids hehe.

No, old dog doesnt mean “old”

Missed this thread the other day. going on 46 here and I used to play rtcw with my daughter when she was ummm…4. I have a great pic of her playing (the only reason I let her play was because she would get on while I was working and making people’s lives unbearable so she learned to play the proper team method of playing).

Back on topic, I like the idea. I swear if another 16 year old calls me kid while Im playing…sigh.

Im 44, grown on Wolfenstein …, and few years of life spended on Q3A back in 2000. Still remember that 1 hour CTF matches on space map hehe.Any of you tried Offensive Combat? After years of no gaming i got back on train with that shooter. And that was hell of a FPS. Already dead game. Offensive Combat was developed by U4iA Games, founded by Dusty Welch (COD) and Chris Archer (industry veteran with more than 40 titles - … Activision, SOE, Virgin Interactive).
Any dog with any good advice? Im playing on full HD with medium settings on 15". Some good advice for FOV … or anything? I die often, ambushing, breaking the ramapges … and hunting snipers with Grandeur.
I remember my settings for quake - as an eastern european player playing on US server i was happy with 120 ping with graphic ala Tron

Hardware makes a huge difference when it comes to performance and reliability of gameplay. It sounds like you might be playing on a laptop. I’d definitely get a 24" monitor to hook up if you can afford to and do not use the built in keyboard for the laptop. That would help immensely. I’d also make sure your frame rates are consistently high and don’t dip badly or you’ll get inconsistent reliability in firefights. I like my bells and whistles for single player games but I definitiely turn off every thing I can when it comes to the multiplayer. I am there to play well and win and I don’t need highly detailed shadows, crazy post processing and filters that show red jelly. So I’d suggest turning that stuff off if you have them on as it helps both in how well you can see and it might help your FPS (and if you’re on anything but a new laptop you probably have FPS issues).

Worst? I dont think so. Too short in game, but its scary gun. Snipers are always runing away. Sometimes i rock, mostly suck … but definitelly need to know maps. Its hard to learn them in nonstop respawning mode

You can turn on FPS by hitting ~ to drop the console and then type STAT FPS at any time after loading up Dirty Bomb. That will show you your FPS and your frame draw times. You can also go into your options in Steam and turn on the frame counter if you have the Steam overlay enabled. Fraps also works with DB if you want to use the frame counter (I wouldn’t use it to record footage though).

An external monitor would most likely help quite a bit. Especially if you get one with good input latency times (not to be confused with the advertised Pixel Response time…which means very little today). Your Rog’s laptop screen may or may not be good in that particular area. I know my laptops screen is not that great and added about 35ms of latency to any game I played. My external monitor I use for playing FPS games on only adds 4.25ms of latency…making it virtually identical to playing on an old CRT monitor.

Also, it has bigger images for your older eyes to focus on

I’ve adorned myself with the clan tag [OLDOG] to show the world that I’m a battle scarred veteran. Join the pack and tag yourself if you’re 30+ and want to show it.
