Oh lordy, Console MP

Since I’ve switched to Fios I’ve noticed that people with poor internets seem to get an advantage over me. It wasn’t so bad in MW2. I’d get host most of the time in that game and, with the exception of the rare person from across the Atlantic or a wi-fi connection who wouldn’t register half a magazine, it mostly had no discernible network lag whatsoever. Dedicated server games - as long as they aren’t bad servers (BC2)- are also pretty much lag free. But lately, I’ve noticed a couple of host games with problems. Mainly BO.

Jesus, Marry, and Joseph Stalin does that game have issues. Most games you can be what feels like up to a second behind the rest of the lobby. For every one match that’s low latency there are five that are absolutely unplayable. I don’t even know what’s going on with that game. Doesn’t even matter if I’m host or not. But it’s not the only one.

Crysis 2 demo seems to have some issues as well. While last evening even on the rare occasion that I didn’t get picked host it picked a really good one leading to a no noticeable lag game. I played an hour this morning and it was as bad as Black Ops.

I guess the point of this post is, I really hope this game has good match making and netcode. I would love it if games had the option to not be connected to people with wi-fi, outside of a certain mile radius, or even with a crappy internet connection. Also, I will preemptively thank the people who feel they need to give the advice to switch to a PC but I’m not going to do that.

Don’t worry, PC servers are plagued by laggers as well… warping about the place, unhittable, or appear to get hit but take no damage.

Found a nice article for you: The Best Internet Connection for Gaming

(censored)

Splash Damage have been pioneers on the multiplayer genera, highlighting: Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and Quake Wars, so their netcode is the best as they can get until release day! So don’t expect it to be unplayable on day 1, at least it’s very unlikely to happen… but if it does happen… oh well… mistaking is a human thing! I’m sure they would fix it in lightspeed mode
Despite of what can happen I guarantee you this: you will be able to rank up on day 1, because the AI will be good and the XP is saved if you play offline until you get connection available (so don’t forget to go pay your internet bills hehehe, if you don’t it’s not a big deal, SD got it covered for you)

Hopefully Brink will start a ®evolution

That article is a bit off base.

I hope the AI is good. The AI in BO was awful. If you ever watch bots in Counter Strike play, they actually look around, checking corners for you. They’ll camp in tactically sound positions, they’ll climb up ladders. They’re pretty believable as real opponents.

The ones in BO will always be chasing you down, when you’re in the area, they’ll stop, track you through a wall and as soon as you pop out headshot you with a recoiless M60. And if not they’ll headshot you from across the map with a recoiless SMG.

They couldn’t climb ladders either, or interact with things. Just shoot and run in circles.

Black Ops has bad netcode. Some of the worst I have ever seen. I don’t play a lot of shooters, but I remember Halo2 having better netcode than Black Ops.
