But to put in the allied’s from america and germany into the game sounds comlicated to me - and it will surly take a long time to create the models and to skin them. I think no one is afraid when this mod only uses the american/german-scheme.

(Big Boss) #22

It’s funny how everyone thinks the war was between the US and Germans and the US and Japs. Hmm, I seem to recall the war going on for a few years without a hint of a yank anywhere. The Australians had a big part in the Pacific thearter as well.

Not everyone thinks that but i unerstand what your saying. We do overlook the rolls that some of the other nations played in the war.But thats only because the United States played such a big part in the war both in the Pacific and in Europe.

([RW]FRED) #23

would be better to see the people in the war that actually helped like British, the french didnt do much, they just slapped them and got cuaght

Que nenni!!! During the battle of France any Tommies troops won’t battle, but french troops stop the germans permitting tommies Dunkerke escape and letting them about 300 000 French soldiers on the beach (My Great father was a poor lieutnant on the beach seeing the tommies boats escaping and never forget that: 4 years of POW)… And the battle continue after on the french territory with the FFI (started in the Vercors with 8th bataillon of Alpine Figther “Les diables bleus”, before the armistice!!!) And remember that the first freed region in France (Savoy) was by french soldiers with the FFI not by americans or tommies!!!

Don’t forget also that DDay would not possible if many FFi didn’t help US&Tommies headquaters with signals and other stuffs.

PLZ

FFI: French Force of Interior

And don’t loose that before 7th Dec 1941. USA sells steel for tommies and hosted wehrmacht banks note and that many US compagnies had many relationships with german war factories… IBM etc

I have also a big means for canadians troops died on Dieppe beach in 1942

Thx for americans troops that free us, but PLZ don’t loose any guys whose participated during that terrible period.

(No1_sonuk) #24

I don’t want to do this, but I can’t let that go.

[RW]Fred, no one stopped the Germans in France but the Germans themselves. They paused briefly before continuing on to Dunkirk. Some believe Hitler did it in order to allow the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) to escape to make it easier to make peace with Britain. I guess we should have taken him up on the offer. We’ve had nothing but abuse about the Dunkirk evacuation, and shelling Normandy on D-Day, from arrogant Frenchmen who don’t appreciate what others did for them. People from other European and Scandinavian countries appreciate the sacrifices made on their behalf, why can’t you?

Also bear in mind that some of the FFI “Liberations” were symbolic, for political reasons, with most of the actual hard fighting done by US, UK, and Commonwealth troops.

And that just about says it all. No thanks to the British people who endured more than 4 years of bombing to bring that freedom to France.

If the British Government knew then what we know now, I think they’d have made peace with Germany in 1940.

Hmm. Next time France is invaded do you want us to let you handle it on your own?

([RW]FRED) #25

WRONG!!!

Remember Jean Moulin, he wasn’t dead for nothing!

Do u know how many RAF pilots was safe with the help of FFI? Do u know how US/GB Headquaters could determine the best place for DDay? Do u know who gave information about Dieppe Do u know how that FFI gave some informations to avoid that operation and said that was a mistake? Do u know who gave some informations about whermacht position?

People from other European and Scandinavian countries appreciate the sacrifices made on their behalf, why can’t you?
Because they didn’t receive RAF’s bombs on their faces. Do u know that today we continue to find 500 pounds bombs in Paris? How many cities was erased by RAF in scandinavian countries (Rouen, Caen, Brest, Brest, Cherbourg…)

[RW]FRED wrote:

Ooops sorry for that! it’s a mistyping. But about bombing only 2 years plz 40-41 & 44 with V1&V2 few months.
Between the Lufwaffe was so bad with theirs Hk111E & Do212 againts RAF and so busy on the eastern front and on North Africa.

why can’t you?
Remember that GB is the secular enemy of France… Only 100yo of “entente cordiale” And i’m sorry i never saw in my country written on the nightclub entrances something like “Forbidden to frenchies & dogs” (Not a legend London 1980)

Some believe Hitler did it in order to allow the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) to escape to make it easier to make peace with Britain
WRONG

35000 French soldiers was sacrified to stop the whermacht, about that Hitler would make peace with GB it’s a legend too… Hitler had written in “my kampf” that after jews the germans enemy are the britains. And why Hitler did the battle britain if we would peace with BG? He could stop military actions and let the britains on their island!

But Don’t worry, every thing is the past and now we have new objectives, and I love britains people as american people except stupid governments…

We still find German bombs and mines here you know.

The Whermacht stopped on their own.

You’re reading too many French history books. Another difference there - British historians aren’t afraid to write that we got our asses kicked.

That would be because the British Government rejected his peace offers.

You’re reading too many French history books. Another difference there - British historians aren’t afraid to write that we got our asses kicked.

It’s strange I’d read the same wiki but in french versions and the story have some difference!!!

Go In english (systran)

The noria of the “little ships”
To gather in also little time small a armada is not easy matter to achieve. That’s no problem, Royal Navy detaches 39 destroyers immediately, of the minesweepers and some other buildings. But it is insufficient because the weak declivity of the beaches obliges the ships of strong tonnage to wet with the broad one. It is consequently necessary to mobilize ferries, trawlers, tug boats, barges, yachts and other boats even more modest, them from now on famous “little ships”. It comes from there 370 equipped at most with two machine-guns. This noria should then be organized. Between Dunkirk and Dover, the most direct road is road Z, long 60 km, but it is with range of the German guns to the height of Calais. The road Y avoids this disadvantage with this close which it puts Dunkirk at 130 km of Dover; who more is, it constitutes a hunting ground for the motor torpedo boats of Kriegsmarine. The most practicable way is road X, long 80 km; it however will be déminée only on May 29. In spite of the vigilance of the RAF, the principal danger comes from the airs. May 29 for example, 400 bombers, protected by 180 stukas, methodically rammed Dunkirk, mitraillant the beaches without omitting to bombard the buildings crossing with the broad one. This day, the assessment of the losses is so heavy that Admiralty decides to stop the operation: on the whole, nearly 250 boats are sent by the bottom; motor torpedo boats are right of two modern French destroyers, the Jaguar and the Sirocco. Fortunately that the ceiling of the clouds, often very low, and the fume of the fires obstructs Luftwaffe, which can leave its escadrilles only May the 27, 29 and June 1

The operations of re-embarkation are inconvenient. There are too many men and not enough of boats. To escape, it is necessary either to be accepted on board a ship accosting with the mole is port (the current pier is advances indeed of 1 500 meters in the sea), or to join the beach and to advance in Indian file to a light boat which makes the to and from between the shore and the building with the broad one. The machine was ground; the first day, 7 669 men could join a combined port, 17 804 the second, 47 310 the third, 53 823 the fourth. It is unhoped-for! June 4 at 3 a.m. 20, Shikari, to the brim charged with soldiers, leaves the mole for its last rotation. to 10 a.m., the German army invests Dunkirk. In nine days, 338 226 combatants (of which 123 095 French) could be evacuated on a glassy sea; Wehrmacht captures some 35 000 soldiers; the near total are of the French whose majority had taken part in the rearguard actions.

But in ur ref:

No Luftwaffe, no artillery only the proud british soldiers.

But be sure that FR&GB headquaters had loose the Battle Of France for the same reason: The WAR had entered in a new way: Blietzkrieg, new weapons, automatic riffle, mobility, armored tank etc. GB&FR didn’t have anything to oppose as weapon: FR Gun 75 model 1915, Lebel Riffle 189x & MAS 36 No automatic riffle vs MP40, horses again tanks, Morane&Hurricane vs BF109E, no bombing aircraft vs Heinkel 111.

My Great Father was in Dunkerque and until he was alive he remember the poor french soldiers rejected on the beach by britishs.

We still find German bombs and mines here you know
I know and on ur beach we continue to find 250 pounds bombs.

Regards

Exactly my point. I would point out, though, that I think my reference was an American site with no reason to be biased. Otherwise, they might have mentioned how many British troops were left behind.

(Domipheus) #29

what was that film with the enigma machine, where the american makers thought it was good to re-write history too

(DG) #30

U-571, and probably a dozen others.

(Domipheus) #31

thats the one

(Big Boss) #32

If the British Government knew then what we know now, I think they’d have made peace with Germany in 1940.

You don’t really mean that do you? just about how long do you think peace with Germany would last? I don’t think any of us would be all to happy right now.If all of Europe including England were under nazis rule right now.

what was that film with the enigma machine, where the american makers thought it was good to re-write history too

You know flim makers have always done that.Who said anything about re-writing history.Like any movie its all about story telling.

(Domipheus) #33

when it is advertised with headlines such as ‘re-witness the worlds history in glorious detail’ etc it gets a tad annoying.

([RW]FRED) #34

Great shot!
Well also W. Churchill hated two kind of human: communists & nazis (and sometime De Gaulle). but we know also that a branch of the royal familly had some good relations with nazis before 1939 and maybe they could have some influence at that period.

Hey guys just wanted to stop by and make a request for an experienced skinner. UV mapping skills are not required but are considered a plus. If you are a skinner or feel you could be of use to The Price of Peace team please contact me through private message on this site, e-mail me at DrGuppy@hotmail.com, or private message me on The Price of Peace forums. (http://pop.rtcwfiles.com)

While I’m here I’d also like to inform everyone that I’ll be updating this site with a fairly large update in the next few days. In the meantime please post some questions you’d like answered about the modification/game. Thanks for your time everyone.

(DrGuppy) #36

Hey guys, this week I’ve got another update from The Price of Peace team, and it’s quite a big one! We’ve got new members, new map screenshots, a newly finished campaign page, new skins, GUI screenshots (Graphical User Interface), and PoP wallpapers in various sizes for your viewing pleasure (technical hiccups prevent section-linkage at this time… see below).

I’ll start off with the new additions to the team. Our newest addition to the team is not one person but actually a professional team. This team is led by Sonic, who runs Sonic Valley Productions, an experienced sound editing and recording company. Having worked on sounds for some maps before, which you can see at their game-specific section, Sonic and his team will be starting off with ambiance sounds for each of the maps to create a truly realistic sounding environment specifically designed to complement our map-makers and they will also be working on weapon sounds, which were begun by roland just a week or two ago (roland is working on some theme and other music for us right now).

Next, we also have acquired Nixxon who is an experienced artist who is working on the menu screens and wherever else the PoP team needs some good looking artwork.

Lastly we have --[jelmertjuh]–, a modeller, who has already completed some BAR models, nearly finished the Springfield models, and is currently starting work on the .30 cal machineguns. They will all be skinned and appear in a future update.

To show some of our progress in the mapping department, I give you 12 new map screenshots of Omaha which is still a work in progress despite how impressive it looks. The full, thumbnailed list is available, or select the pictures individually below.

-Omaha 12
-Omaha 11
-Omaha 10
-Omaha 9
-Omaha 8
-Omaha 7
-Omaha 6
-Omaha 5
-Omaha 4
-Omaha 3
-Omaha 2
-Omaha 1

This week I would also like to showcase our new M1A1 Thompson WIP model that will be included into the first release.

M1A1 Thompson (Work in Progress) (1st Person)
Model by No1_sonuk
This model was made as component parts, partially based on machining drawings. For game use, it will be edited to reduce the poly count (currently around 2300). The large rear sight hole will be adjusted once we get it in game, or might be replaced by a notch.

We also have many small updates from various team members. This is ongoing proof that with each update we become increasingly closer to a first release! Here is a short list of some progress made by team members recently.

The Campaign Page is up and details how the maps will be played out in The Price of Peace. This page is fairly self explanatory and will undergo changes as more information and campaigns develop.

It is only shortly after Nixxon has joined the team, and he has already produced some early (yet still very good) constructions of the PoP GUI (Graphical User Interface/Menu). We will also be adding a few special effects to these menu screens to enhance the look and feel of our menu/option screens. More info on this in the coming weeks.

G-Banger has also been working quite hard to prepare a full set of realistic skins for the US Army’s 29th Infantry Division. These are character model reskins, awaiting our ability to spend more time remodelling and redoing the animations in a future release.

roland, one of the team’s sound/editing guys has been working to produce realistic weapon sounds and has begun composing music for a PoP theme. Unfortunately because of the risk of these sounds being stolen/copied/reproduced I am unable to show them off until they are integrated into another larger structure, and for this I apologize.

Jomama, one of our 2D artists has completed some Price of Peace wallpapers for everyone to use. These come in 4 different sizes located below, enjoy!

-800x600
-1024x768
-1280x960
-1280x1024
-1600x1200

As always I will have another update in the coming weeks as we get closer to our first release. Questions/Comments are what I’m here for, so post away. Also, to catch the newest info on The Price of Peace, stop by the website at http://pop.rtcwfiles.com

Thanks to the PoP team for giving me loads of stuff to work with, and thanks to everyone for their time!

ugh. can we get some normal screenshots instead of that 3d model stuff. you’re (deliberately or not) excluding linux users.

(Korollary) #38

Best of luck with your mod.

One concern I have is that you seem to have a massive selection of guns (–looking at the class descriptions only – the equipment section is even more explosive). IMHO, it’s not going to be possible to balance all those similar weapons that vary in clip sizes, rate of fire, etc.

I like the skill distributions (it’s an idea that’s been proposed numerous times – good to see someone finally picking it up). However, it may be upsetting for a player to be told that “your crosshair is dead on, but since you’re an engineer you don’t get to hit anything”. If the guy can shoot, let him shoot. However, if he’s playing a class that shouldn’t be ramboing around, that can be accomplished by handicapping him in other areas such as ammo, speed of movement, speed of rotation, etc.

Just my 2 cents.

(No1_sonuk) #39

Bani: We’re not deliberately excluding anyone. There are renders of most of the models on the images pages.
It’s easier for me to generate the 3D viewer models for WIP models as my software (Milkshape3D) has it built in, and it’s quick to do. I’ll look into getting renders done, and possibly an alternative, Linux-friendly, 3d viewer. Do you know of one?

Korollary: Perfect balance is impossible if you want even the remotest sense of realism. A few examples:
The only semblence of balance can be achieved with any realism is thus:
US M1903 Springfied nearest German equivalent = K98k (note, these are UNSCOPED - The scopes had different powers)
US M1918 BAR nearest German equivalent = FG42, but FG42s were only issued to paras
US M1911A1 nearest German equivalent = P08 (Luger) (but 9mm, not .45)
As a real long-shot you could include the M3A1 Greaser with the 9mm conversion to balance the MP40

By you’re definition, ALL other weapons have too much of an imbalance to be included. Not even most of the Canadian weapons could be added to this list. Any Canada vs Germany maps would have t be SMGs only, as they are the only truly balanced weapons in the game (non-suppressed Sten and MP40).
You would be horrified if we introduced the proper Canadian sniper rifle - the Lee-Enfield No.4 MK1 (T). ARRRRRRRGH a 10 round sniper! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHH! (If you don’t understand this comment, you don’t know that the Mauser should only have 5 rounds in it, not 10 like in RtCW and ET)

In reality, there was no balance. Each side had a technology advantage in some areas that the other didn’t. So we’re looking at the big picture.
You see MG42 rate of fire=1500, but M1919A4 is only 500, so you start screaming “IMBALANCE!!!”
You don’t see that they have LIMITED AMMO, and that the MG42 will empty 3 times faster.

There’s a line between balance and realism. ET is firmly on the balance side. We’re just over into the realism side.

(DrGuppy) #40

Hey everyone, its been a while since an update and it’ll have to be a little more unfortunately. The team is working on some material that I can’t release to the public, yet. In the meantime our team is ever-expanding as we include more content so I have a request for a new member.

The Price of Peace is in moderately desperate need of a 2D GFC artist of considerable skill able to work with PhotoShop graphics like http://66.132.176.8/priceofpeace/nixxon_pub/mockfancy.jpg

This request is of some urgency for an upcoming previously-unmentioned project whose release is set for the near future. Please head over to our Forums at http://pop.rtcwfiles.com/forums and make an account. Then PM me, DrGuppy, or ipox (Leader) to find out how you can help us.

Thanks for your time,
