Odd Crossfire Bug

Another ATI problem, not surprising eh?

But I can’t seem to figure this one out. Any angle I look at it from it makes no sense.

Basically, I can start the game and play through a single match just fine. Zero issues. However, if I try to load a second map after that it will instantly crash. Note that after a match I can go back to the main menu and mess around with everything fine, but as soon as a second map starts loading it will crash.

That’s not the best part though. Even after I kill the process, the second GPU will then bug out, staying stuck in 3D mode and reads 99% GPU usage. Nothing I do will “unstick” it. Even disabling and re-enabling the card doesn’t work. From this point if I start any program that kicks the cards into 3D mode I will instantly get a BSOD.

I’m using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and 2 x 512MB Radeon 4870’s in CrossFireX. I don’t think much else is really relevant.

I would play in single card mode but then I get super crappy framerates.

Anyone else having this problem, or know a way to fix it?

The first standard question will go in the drivers direction. Which driver did you use and did you try updating to the latest?

Sorry cant really help you more.

If this crash is consistently reproducible for you I would definitely try one evening of single card play to see if the issue persists

Running 11.6 which as far as I know is the latest version.

I would just play on a single card, but with both enabled I can get around 60 FPS. Perfectly smooth and playable but with just one card I get about 30 with severe dips into the low teens at times. Not ideal.

All of it has to do with that second card. When it happens, the first card lets go properly and settles down into 2D mode when I get back to the desktop, but the second card just seizes up. No other game causes anything like this so I have no clue what to think.

Also If I play one game, exit entirely and start the game back up I can play another single level but it’s pretty annoying doing that.
