Oceania PC Players

(crazyfoolish) #1

So any players on PC in Australia in New Zealand want to trade Steam names and possibly play together in the future?

bookmaked
“Land of Ocenaia. Country of peace and prosperity” © Orwell

p.s.
can au players can do something with their pings ? or their ISP’s ?

Aside from moving closer to the server they’re trying to use, I don’t think so unfortunately  Latency is huge from Europe to Australia - generally above the 500ms mark, which is useless for FPS games, and pretty horrible even for MMOs.

:(( maybe new super-uber-hyper-backbone to link Pacific countries TOGTHER ?
thats why some many players i know, was move to NA, i guess :frowning:
from otherwise nice, country, i mean :[

It’s a nice thought  I definitely think latency is a big killer for online games launched in Australia, because the local players have to rely on (mostly) local servers. I’m unsure of the latency between Aus and the US - I seem to remember people saying it was better, but still not low enough to really enjoy the game and be able to compete. This means a game really has to take off in Oz for those players to continue enjoying it - an uphill struggle for most games, I’d say, on top of the crazy prices charged for most games over there. Australian gamers get a very unfair deal from the gaming industry at every step, it seems :frowning:

Hey at least you don’t live in NZ :frowning:

I’m actually in the UK, but I do feel for you guys in the Asia Pac region  The situation seems to be so bad, it’s surprising that online - and even offline! - games sell at all. Not a good state of affairs.

I think you’re doom-n-glooming it a bit much there mate. There are plenty of ISPs in Australia who host game servers for most of the popular games free of charge, then there are clans and gaming groups who host public servers. There’s lots of server options available, and lots of players populating those servers.

Ping to US is crapola, but better than to the UK by probably 100ms.

You’re probably right there - but if the game doesn’t really take off in Oz and you still want to play it, I’d imagine the situation is still pretty poor?

(LyndonL) #12

Well that’s no different to anywhere. If the game doesn’t take off there’s no community and hard to play…

I don’t mind as I’ll be hosting my own server anyway

lowest ping, asides from NZ, is usually japan or asian countries. But ive played with and made good friends with players form America and Russia, its all good fun still.
Also, brbrbr do u play/still play etqw, if so i think u joined same server i was on a few weeks back, but left quickly (probably due to lag lol)
