Obsidian cards

So i am some what new to DB, as in i started playing about 4-5 months ago. the first time i saw an obsidian card i really liked it, so i did some research and from what i found obsidian cards were closed beta only. is this true that only closed beta players will ever have an obsidian, or will there be obsidian cards in the future with the release of new mercs?

Everyone got an Obsidian Phoenix near the start of the Containment War event.

Edit: (self-correction) Everyone that owned Phoenix before the CW event got the Obsidian Card. Only the people that didn’t have Phoenix don’t have the Obsidian card (they got Phoenix himself instead).

Closed Beta and Founder’s Obsidians will stay forever exclusive to players. Phoenix’s Obsidian that was given out in an event, maybe. But I’m sure there will be a lot more chances to get them in the future whether it is for other mercs or the ones that already got them but just different variants.

although Founders Obsidians will remain the rarest, others are likely to appear

Why don’t they bring back Diamond and such for exclusive event rewards, saturating the “card market” with Obsidians will make them less rare, especially since they all use a similar design (excluding founders).

they need to remain rare, im still salty i started playing again two days after the free phoenix obsidian card was given :frowning:

First time I heard about this game was via youtube. My fav youtuber actually uploaded a vid showcasing DB. That was on the day when beta became open. Sadly I missed the times before that -.-

i was going through old emails and found one from closed beta with 3 beta keys, never gave those out sadly lol

I care less about getting more obsidians and more about just having more neat options in general. If the card is called something else but has a nice effect, plus good skins that go with it (and doesn’t suffer from loadout RNG issues), then I’d be thrilled to see more of them. If they stay as annoyingly difficult to get hold of as the recent event cases, though, I’ll just keep ignoring them. My two containment war cards that I actually managed to get have yet to see a single use.

At this point we have pretty much been given confirmation that there will be more obsidian cards in the future! However, there is currently no news on which merc these will be for, nor when we can expect them. I personally do not think we will see them any time within the next couple of months, but that’s just speculation :slight_smile: Needless to say - there will be more!

I love my founder’s fragger. I get a ton of comments which is always fun. I would love if there were some more cosmetic options to customize our characters. Even subtle ones like different bags for sparks or slight armor variations for Thunder etc would go a long ways towards making this game that much more alive. I love that aspect of the tf2 dress up game. I believe in a hat-based economy

I would kill for a kill for a S95 Obsidian Stoker! The orange would go so perfect with him being a firebug!
