.obj support?

just wondering if anyone ever got .obj working in gtkradiant/q3map2/q3 the models load fine for me but i still cant figure out the shader paths thing. I’ve tried every combination of each. but still no textures in radiant OR quake3 :frowning:

i’ve seen the solutions converting via milkshape, but i couldnt even get that to work either with .obj or .md3 i used to have md3’s working with 3d studio, but i’ve since migrated to maya. and prefer the ascii .obj file format.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does Maya have support for ASE export? If so, or if you can get a plugin to export to ASE, then you can follow the instructions here for setting up the materials for ASE:

http://www.quake3world.com/ubb/Archives/Archive-000004/HTML/20031022-6-026044.html

Also, remember that file paths for anything used in Q3 needs to have forward slashes “/”.

BTW, you’re not putting your models in the gtkradiant/q3map2/q3 directory are you? Models for vanilla Q3 should go in:
C:\Q3installdir\baseq3\models\mapobjects\yourdir\

i couldnt find any options for ase export and maya.

and the maya md3 plugin is too old for maya 6.

i knew about the “/” issue from working with max/md3

so is the .obj support just completely broken in q3map2/radiant? or what?

why bother having it if its useless?

my 2 cents.

i suppose i could use doom3ed to do some obj–>.map conversion… but that might be a pain.

oo one last question… does a model NEED a shader? or can i just assign a .tga and expect it to work without a shader(assuming the path is correct)?
