nvidia users......

hi guys, after having enough with the ATI 9670 i bought for brink im looking at sending it back as ATI cant get their act together and getting a 480 or 570 nvidia card.

can people tell me what FPS and eye candy i would get with one of these?

also, do you get >60fps at all times using a CPU like mine, quad core 9550 @ 3.2 GHz. i generally get >60fps with ATI but it does drop to the 20s sometimes, which is annoying! im using to smooth gaming!

hey. im no nvidia user but i would recommend a 560ti or a 470. maybe even a 460. the 460 has the best price/performance rating.

i personally think about getting a 470 or 560ti. not sure though.

if you go for a 470, take a closer look at this thing:

Zotac GeForce GTX 470 AMP! Edition, 1.25GB GDDR5, 2x DVI, Mini-HDMI (ZT-40202-10P)

(german site only, sry)
http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a534361.html

it is overclocked and is very silent, and is pretty cheap, too.

about the eye candy. you wont see a difference between a nvida and an ati card.

and you should be able to run any current game at a constant high framerate with your rig. with aa and af enabled of course.

oh, and if you have an unlimeted amount of money, i would buy 2 gtx460 + a sli mainboard.

anyone else? maybe going to try to swap this demon ATI nightmare for a 570/480

not sure they are beefy enough. im considering bf3 too, and might well not be able to upgrade for a few years after this as when my son is here (september) i wont be able to justify toys for a while (all toys will be for him!)

I’ve got 2 480’s. They run Brink, and everything else I have loaded just fine. Understand though, they’re hot, power hungry cards, but they deliver in terms of performance.

how much money do you want to spend anyways?

i can only speak in euros, german prices. you get a gtx470 or gtx560ti under 200euros. 560ti is slightly better than the 470, less power consumption, but is a bit more expensive.

if you want to spend more than 200euros, go for a gtx570. 570 is slightly better than the 560ti.

though, there are of course different models of 560ti cards. you can buy a overclocked card for a few euros more and have almost the performance of a 570.

if you want to play battlefield3 i guess i would just wait and see what hardware requirements it has. maybe it runs as chunky on nvidia cards as brink does on ati cards.

and you can of course always order something via amazon. they dont have any shipping costs and you usually can try everything you buy out and send it back to them within 4 weeks, without any costs. at least you can do this here in germany.

I got a 560Ti FPB from EVGA. Very quite, very low power consumption. And constant 60fps at full HD with default settings. Didnt mess with anything. Both card and brink run out of the box. It looks pretty and works rocksolid.

EVGA offers a 2month upgrade programm in case you need more performance. Just send the card and the difference price to them and get the better model.

480 is a god awful card, 570 would be the smart place to put your money

(Instant_Soldier) #9

The weird thing is that you could have plugged the 570 sans the utterly uninformed 480 comment.

(Mustang) #10

This is news to me

(Smoochy) #11

odd, since the 480 is more powerful. i guess you can OC a 570 to 580 easily enough but doesnt the 480 have a bigger bus?

(Sandman77) #12

geforce 250 graphics card then PC with 4 gb ram and intel 2 quadcore does it for me…

(Smoochy) #13

grrr. lol. my gfx card is much better but you have the nvidia… lucky sod

i believe more cpus adds to the power as well. I got this PC from a friend for a great deal before Xmas. before that I had an AMD Sempron 3000 with an ati radeon pro 3500??? with 512 mb ram and 2 gb ram

that was lowtech but worked for a long time too

i have a c2d quad core extreme as well. clocked at 3.33Ghz for max stability.

haha! screw you ATI!

just ordered an nvidia 580!
