[NQ Unofficial 1.2.3] 2 Primary Weapons (MP40 & Thompson)

(system) #21

Ailmanki,

he spreaded SO , DLL files around without appropiate packing it. The effect is, there are now a few modified binary files floating around without a proper description.
normally you make a mod (if public) and add a readme, install or whatsoever to it. And if you modify NQ, and PACK the binaries, you should pack it WITH A DECENT README ABOUT THE MODIFICATION

(Paul) #22

Currently my server is down, when it’s up I’ll put the bins in a zip, saying these are modificated. Btw, you can still see it on the size & compile date

Binary replacements are exactly that, binary replacements. What more do you actually want, a full dragged out readme file of about 6 pages to literally say, “replace the old .so/.dll file with the one you downloaded”?

Binaries don’t have packing as they’re loaded straight by the server…

(stealth6) #24

Maybe this is an underlying reason but NQ dev team don’t want 2.55 servers to be aided anymore, and I think that is what Paul is doing.

also would explain why he is using 1.2.3 since after that it was not allowed to run NQ on 2.55 servers.
Also another reason would be combating 100 different types of NQ which was a risk when it was opensourced

I think if it was a lua script or a side mod like etadmin_mod it would be alot less of a problem.

(ailmanki) #25

At least a readme saying what has been modified, and why it ain’t nq 1.2.3, but a mod of nq 1.2.3.

(Paul) #26
  • Source for > 1.2.3 I don’t have and is not availeble anymore, if it would there would be bins now for 1.2.5 and 1.2.7 too  Above that, 2.55 is just part of the game, and now with all those patched 2.55+ servers it’s not so mega-unsafe anymore. 2.55 is just more fun, more played, it’s just part of ET and the community, let it drop would mean the dead of it. See how many nq 1.2.3 servers there are, if all would go to 2.55 there servers will die.

If you release new binaries, at least put a readme to it with the changes…whats so hard to understand about it ?

Oh and a readme/install would be nice

edit : SERVER BINARIES if you you prefer, i dont talk about client binaries…

(Paul) #28

This little modification doesn’t change the client at all

Website is up again, edited links and changed it to .zip, which includes the NQ license & simple readme saying it’s not offical nq blabla ;p

(system) #29

I know young padawan, client files are downloaded automatically. Rudi misunderstood something

(stealth6) #30

solve this problem you shall

Obviously not talking about client binaries, that’s why they don’t really need to be packaged up. If somebody’s going to download it, they’re going to download it from the official site which contains all the relevant data…

No, I didn’t.

Somebody who doesn’t know how to change a server-side module should not be hosting a game server.

@Paul - The Windows / Linux links are the wrong way round

They should point to zip’s now with readme rofl

  • I fully 100% agree with “Somebody who doesn’t know how to change a server-side module should not be hosting a game server.”

(dwe_flame) #33

so i start to wonder while reading this topic,
just a few questions to understand the situation a bit more …
wasn’t NQ based on Etpro mod ? at least thats what i have read on the NQ forums if i recall correctly ?
so if that statement is true, shouldn’t there be some referring to the etpro mod too, within the NQ licence ?

just sharing my thoughts, but maybe i am totally wrong, if thats the case, forgive my ignorance.

(stealth6) #34

I think you are mistaken since the etpro source is not availible, they possible started from the etpub code though?

(Paul) #35

Yes first 80% etpub but that seems to be removed these days.
Hmm, can’t find etpub license anywhere in nq?

(system) #36

If it would be a client modification, you should pack readme in the pk3 file
If if would be a server modification, you should pack a readme to it.

And what has this subject got to do with server side stuff you mentioned. getting a bit offtopic huh ?
Replacing a server file is no problem at all and everyone can do it so i dont understand what the hell you mean by “Somebody who doesn’t know how to change a server-side module should not be hosting a game server” or why you need to tell us this.

(Rudi) #37

The point I’m trying to make is that a change as simple as this does not require a readme.

(aaa3) #38

i like the dual gun idea.
dont like originally not providing the readme, license and source by the author.
dont like the removing of the mod request by nq authors.
but if needed stuff now there in the updated thing, is evrytg all right finally?? i hope yes caus its a nice mod

p.s., is it, evry1 carrying a tommy and an mp, or axis carrying 2 mp and allie 2 thomps? i’d like the 1st lol

(Paul) #39

It’s the first option you said
Yes everything is all right, and it’s not going to be removed (anytime soon…)

(crapshoot) #40

it doesn’t matter how much code changed, it still shouldn’t be released as NQ. it’s an unofficial branch off of old code. what if several people started adding a feature that took one minute max to add (like this) and started releasing as NQ version xxx? it’s a support nightmare. are people looking for support on the NQ site supposed to now specify that they are using so and so’s slight modification?

the intentions were obviously good here and nobody has a problem with modification of the code. there is undoubtedly several servers running with slight modifications and thats fine too. the only issue here is that it is publicly released / distributed as NQ. altering the name seems to me like a simple and reasonable request.

the only reason the source was freely available for as long as it was is because of Irata. you should at least show some sort of gratitude by repspecting his wishes.
