NPCs

Hi guys,

Is there a way we can have Non player Characters on ET maps? I don’t want them to be AI controled like RTCW single player enemies, but only to stand somewhere in the map doing some basic animation.

You might be thinking: “why should a multiplayer map ever need NPCs?” Well, I’m planing a map where one of the objectives would be to free some POWs from an axis prision camp, and I thought I would need some prisoner models :smiley: .

Oh, and please forgive my poor english… it’s not my native language.

I’m guessing (a lot) here, but it might be possible to load the actual player models into milkshape and reskin them, and possibly even export them with some animation?

Scrap that - the bodies are in MDM format, whatever that is :frowning:

Hm, I know that one custom map for RtCW had a character in it. The goal was to assasinate Hitler, and sure enought he was standing there (in the basement) and you had to find him and kill him.

I’m sort of going out on a limb here, because I’m not a mapper… But if you were to create a model of a character, couldn’t you just use it like a vehicle? It moves through a pre-determined path when another character is close-by, for example… It can be destroyed… It’s animated…

I don’t know… Just thought this was a good idea, something I’d like to see in maps… It SEEMS do-able…

Although, one suggestion… if it IS done, I would suggest removing the ability to “mount” the NPC…

Its a new character model format for ET. I don’t know the exact details of the format but I know that no export/import programs have been given to the community.

:moo:[/quote]Oh well, time to trawl all the old Q3 free model libraries then to see if someone somewhere has done an MD3 you can reskin and use. I’m sure there’s one out there somewhere :slight_smile:

Thx for all your help and sugestions!

I was thinking just like Pirate_X, to use some soldier model like a “vehicle” (without the “mount” feature of course :smiley: and with no machine gun mounted over the model head :smiley: :smiley: ). But I thought that using the ET player models and skins would be easier… I was not counting on that MDM issue… :frowning: . I’m not good at modeling/skining stuff, so I guess I’ll need more help with that as soon as I find a free Q3 model that I can use…

Nah, if you find a decent md3 format you can just use that as the model2 value in the script_mover.

So to put it bluntly, go hunt for an MD3 version of a person :slight_smile:

this is essentially what i was doing with a map i’m making. im’ still not sure how well it’d work, as i haven’t really found a way to do it yet.
