If it helps make one set of rules a universal standard Iâm for it.
Just to add some more details/explanations for people unfamiliar with this ruleset:
No matter wether you are level 1 or 20 you will have all the abilities that are allowed on the server for each class so spending points in the menu will have no impact, as the server will give you the allowed abilities for each class (stops you from being limited to playing the 1 class you spend ability points on)
Restricted Abilities:
Universal:
Combat Intuition
Sense of Perspective
Downed Fire
Medic:
Self Resurrection
Adrenaline Boost
Soldier:
Satchel Charges
Engineer:
Nerves of Steel
Extra Landmine
Gattling Turret
Operative:
Homing Beacon
Comms Hack
Cortex Bomb
EMP Grenades
Engineers are therefore limited to 1 mine, in the original ruleset a team is limited to 1 turret however we have no way of enforcing it, so any number is allowed per team.
Also we cannot enforce reverse hacking, but hopefully if we can promote it through server chat players may understand, but again it depends on the players we cannot stop it.
We are just going to see how popular it is for a trial period, if it isnât then weâll just revert it back to standard public
The whole point is for competitive players who are competing in ESL cups & ladders can practice when alone in a public server where the settings are a similar style, but also to attract any people who donât play competition to try out the rulesets
I personally just like the removal of some of the more unbalanced abilities and some of the lame ones, namely downed fire, and spider sense lol.
Also its nice how you dont have to make a character that specialises in a class, you can come on the server with a level 1 character and have every ability on every class already there (ESL abilities ofc), also for comp players its nicer playing casually using the ruleset they will use in matches, as they dont get used to combat inuition etcâŚ
The whole lvl 1 bit is kinda interesting to me.
Does it just default button assignments then? If you are level 1?
Does this mean that there is no reason to ever specialize in a class, so at any time I can be effective at all 4 classes simply by switching at a CP? I didnât check it through but I guess with all the restricted abilities you can get close to all 4 maximized at 20 ability pts anywayâŚ
Didnât see anything about class limits? Should be interesting then. Kinda tf2 ish.

Yes, no need to specialise. Every player has the ability to be a medic/engi/operative/soldier as well as anyone else. There are no second rate soldiers and no fully stacked medics (with self revive etc).
i hope splashdamage will scrap the ability for engineers to remove the hackbox alltogether
I can see this game is definitely going down the COD comp rules road. too bad. before long it will end up completely stripped.
sGs & OCB ESL Rule Set Pro Public
Seems to be quite hard to start up with only 1 or 2 of us in the day, guess we will have to try when more clan members are on in the evening.

Mind to tell me what cvars enforce this?
Also, i STRONGLY am disheartened if the âofficialâ config will force enable sprinting nade since i know personally i like to sprint to cancel a nade throw since there is no other way to cancel nade tosses.
Canât you cancel a nade by clicking on 1 or 2 for another weapon or something like that?

This used to be a skill in the old days, situational awareness to know when to time and throw cooked grenades, with the results of bad timing being to have to airshoot / throw a nade into a safe corner as the right moment had passed. Sounds simple, but in team CQB with FF was another one of the things which seperated the good players / teams from the best.
Additional - Canât really comment on the ârulesâ, no where near enough experience with the game to make any definitive calls on their balance, as with anything what seems OP / UP / noobified could well not be after the metagame develops (if itâs allowed to).
This game isnât balanced for competitive play. SD developers have even acknowledged that is has not been balanced for competitive play. To try to play a game, which has been balanced for casual play, competitively, is idiotic. Until SD fixes some of these abilities they will be restricted or cut to allow for proper competitive play.
In the end, these rulesets are aiding the longevity of the game not hindering it.
COD4 was the same way, in order to be anywhere near competitive ready, the game had to be stripped. Thatâs how bad it was.

There are some people in the fighting game community, myself included, that think Super Smash Brothers is a lost cause for competition and think that if you have to alter the game as much as it is from the standard ruleset, maybe itâs just a trash game and shouldnât be played.
awesome! will b there tonite, tho i have to join with a new char in order to apply to the rulesâŚ
