November Developer Q&A 1

(Faraleth) #1

Hey all! There was a slight delay on these questions due to a lot of man-power going into the Containment War Update, the devs were understandably busy with the update work, so a couple of the questions (especially the one regarding Dome) might be a little irrelevant, but they are still a nice read. Hope you enjoy! I’ll post a new question request thread VERY soon!

Is it likely that Dirty Bomb will get other game-modes after Execution’s release, or is the classic game-mode and Execution the main focus of Dirty Bomb?
We are looking into prototyping and possibly adding another game-mode or two to Dirty Bomb. Right now we don’t have a timeline for when these could be hitting the game.

How aware are you of the European server performance in the past month? There have been numerous server crashes and large lag spikes, with almost radio silence from devs/publisher.
We are aware of this and have made some changes to our server configurations in order to help resolve this issue. If it continues to happen, please create a ticket via the link below and provide the following information: Date, Time, Server Region and Name
https://support-dirtybomb.nexon.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

How likely are we to see other Merc Obsidian cards in the future?
It is safe to say we will be doing more Obsidians in the future, however these will be rare and primarily for special events.

We know there are planned changes for the “trade-in” system - but can we expect any changes to the price/cost of trading up?
We’ve been collecting data on how and when the feature is used in its current state, and will make changes based on our findings. We don’t have a date planned for these changes, but once we have sufficient data and are happy with a new price proposal, we will put it into the game.

Has the map Dome had any changed/moved features since it was last play-tested as a block out, or has it just been textured in the state that it was previously?
Dome was strictly built, modelled and textured following the guidelines of the tested block out. However small changes will be found in places due to playtest feedback, QA testing, performance considerations and level designer tweaks.

Can we expect any improvements to the level up system in the future (such as extra credits/case rewards)?
The Level-Up system could do with having some extras added and will be looking at this more in the near future.

Will individual Merc levels ever return?
This is something which could return in the future, however we have no plans for this currently.

Could we ever see a “try before you buy” feature for mercs (such as being allowed to play test each Merc once for an hour, or something like this)?
The Rotation is there to allow players the chance to try out other Mercs for free. But thank you for raising this, we’ll take a look into it.

Any plans to turn the “max level 5” servers into “max level 7” servers, with the change of minimum competitive level?
This is a good idea and something we will take into consideration.

Could we get some MIN level 10 servers that are 6v6, instead of all being 7v7?
Thank you for raising this. We will look into it.

Will we ever see dedicated servers that only allow X amount of one merc on a team (so we don’t have entire teams fill with 8 Rhino’s, or something…)?
This is an interesting idea. We have thought about putting something like this in-game before, but we felt players would be frustrated that they couldn’t play the Merc they wanted to simply because someone else swapped. We are considering a ‘drafting’ mode where duplicate Mercs aren’t allowed, however this would be more of a Competitive feature.

Any chance you could release some more concept art images in the future?
Definitely. With the Merc releases we also share some of the concept art that went into making them, and there will be more besides that we can share along the way.

All the answers above are unedited versions of the dev responses. Below is a small TLDR/summary I personally assembled:

  • They are considering and “looking into” prototyping possible new game-modes for Dirty Bomb.
  • They are aware of the server issues. Please report any major issues to support.
  • Yes, more Obsidian cards in the future.
  • Trade-in changes coming “soon”. No ETA or details on it.
  • Rewards for leveling up could be coming in the future. It’s being considered/looked into.
  • No current plans to bring back merc levels, but it could happen.
  • For now, the merc rotation is the only thing planned to allow people to test mercs.
  • “Max level 5” servers might change to “Max level 7”.
  • They will consider adding “min level 10” 6v6’s.
  • Considering a “drafting” style merc selection for matches, so that multiples of the same merc can’t be picked. Likely more of a competitive feature though.

Hope you all found this a good read! Keep an eye out for my next Dev Q&A question thread!

Uhmm max lvl 7 servers no ty D: before we’ll see a ton of players fully leveling to 7 on a max server and thinking he’s great at the game and enters comp .-.

(cordovanJive) #3

@sensitiveJellyfish

It’s already happened, and before that it was level five… =P

(neverplayseriou) #4

@cordovanJive yea lets not make that mistake again! :stuck_out_tongue:

I think people will be a lot better adjusted to the game and mechanics at the beginning of level 8 than they are at the beginning of level 6. I am not a fan of account levels but I’ve always felt a person who cares (take note of that particular choice of words) will have a good grasp of the game, maps, mechanics and a couple mercs by the time they hit 8. So if they are going to jump into more shark infested waters in public servers they will be better equipped at 8 as opposed to 6 since the amount of hours going from 6 to 8 is fairly significant.

(SiegeFace) #6

I was gonna make a thread/maybe multiple threads asking about some of these things, guess I wont need to now ; )

Thank you.

So first they tell everyone not to use the trade in in its current state yet they want to collect feedback from it…

Also next time no need to send the questions to the devs, just post our questions with this answer every single time: Thank you for raising this. We will look into it.

Regarding server size, I think 6v6 would be a very positive addition for minimum level 10 servers. Basically, the optimal player count per team depends on how skilled and coordinated the players are. The better a team is, the more likely it is the defense becomes impenetrable with larger player counts.

I’d like to see the standard server sizes distributed as follows:

Max Level 5 - 8v8
Open to everyone - 7v7
Min Level 10 - 6v6
Competitive - 5v5

Having multiple options for each of these categories (excluding competitive) would be fine, but I’d recommend that most servers match the default to allow for optimal enjoyment.

not only 1 single word about the horrible matchmakin or autoteambalance ingame and the solutions about it 2 fix problems…

go ahead, overwatch release isnt that far away anymore & you will lose more and more players.

(Faraleth) #12

@Nimron Because no one asked it! I’ll post a new question request thread soon, and if you have a question, submit it there!

(Nimron) #13

hahahah ok, was just curios one of the biggest issues in this great game and no1 dropd a word about it.

funky

(Yes) #14

@sensitiveJellyfish How can you disagree with what I said when it is a fact?

(Fiktio) #15

But having low level servers is newcomer friendly and gives at least a chance for new players to play with other low levels, before they go to open servers.
When I started this game, I was also playing in minimum level 5 servers and I’m glad those servers were available.

(Mister__Wiggles) #16

Not really giving much info to the community. The usual ‘soon’ or in the future keeps popping up. All I want is for there to be more clarity with the community

You must have misread it too, they’re replying to the trade UP feature, while referring to the trade IN feature. Two separate things. It got me too…
