Not Focusing on killing.

So this afternoon I was passing some time playing BFBC2, and as per usual I was compensating for my slow aiming skills by making sure I was passing out ammo/health/revives when I was an assault or medic. And dishing out tons of mines on the big tank maps, doing repairs and the like. And of course because BFBC2 demands it I was shooting and spotting as well. I did well for the afternoon, I was never top player, but I was close.

When I was done, started thinking about Brink, and the fact that from what has been said, it is conceivably possible that my support actions will really be enough to not only help my team win, but also keep my score decently high. So if players like me are focusing on the support roles available in the game, does this open up even more killing opportunities for you expert shooters? Will those of you who not only have the skills to keep a high kill count, but also enjoy that aspect of a FPS game the most be able to amass large kill counts because you will have a better support team at your back?

just wondering.

Of course, a solider can create a short cut, and for people who like tactical game or just tactical things, getting flanked SUCKS! So if your doing objectives like, clearing the way for a shortcut, or helping a soldier trying to make a short cut, or building an MG turret to protect your teams flank OR ANYTHING, by doing objectives rather than just killing. Your more of an asset if you do your objectives than just trying to get a tactical nuke.

Yes.

Good aimers will always get lots of kills. Obviously if these good aimers are being helped by their team they will get more kills.

Kill counts seem irrelevant in BRINK. There’s no K/D ratio and mowing down goons apparently earns you only minimum XP, if your objective doesn’t actually involve killing enemies.

You get more xp for killing players near/doing objectives than random kills on battlefield. Killing is still important, they are just trying to discourage 100% killing is everything mentality, in the hope that players will see the xp rewards for doing obj and supporting team, and change their 100% mentality to a 60/40 of killing/supporting. Thus creating effective and rewarding teamwork based gameplay.

Obviously objectives and team support are critical in Brink, but as is so often said, this is a shooter game. Killing your enemy matters, if only so they are not right there killing you. I am not suggesting that good shooters focus only on shooting and not do objectives. I am wondering I guess if this game will be ®evolutionary enough to allow the really good shooters to change their mindset, knowing that there are players like me (if the game really encourages this play style) who will be there to support them.

Obviously those of you in clans and competetive players already know this feeling, so I wonder then will it change the way good pub players think and play?

I’ve always been considered a good player by my teammates on games like COD because I have high kills/low deaths in most games I play. But, there should be more to a game than kills and deaths. I’m really looking forward to Brink because of that. It lets the support players shine, the people who like to revive, the people who like to keep the team supplied. The cylinders in the engine that make the car run. In games like MAG, I mostly spent points in the Medic tree because I always felt like a strong support player that can revive 5 of his good playing buddies is better than 1 excellent shooter. And I feel like Brink also plays that way. Keeping your teammates alive so that 7-8 people can raid an objective rather than 3-4 will help the whole team get more points in the long run. Hopefully people will realize this and try to work together…

Rather than play lone wolf and think you can kill the team on your own.

Don’t forget the very important roles of being bait and crossfire support. I run out and find out where the enemy is based on where he shoots me from, get a few shots and hopefully a spot in his general direction, and let my twitchier teammates get a clean shot on the guy who is now focused on me.
