Not enough people play ranked... What would get you to play more ranked matches?

(SzGamer227) #1

Despite the addition of seasonal rewards in the recent update, ranked matches have been decreasing in activity; it’s becoming harder and harder to find a ranked match, and less and less appealing to those who want to.

Since ranked matchmaking has become such a time sink, it seems fair to offer credits as compensation for anyone who spends the time looking for ranked matches rather than earning credits in regular games, and as an incentive for more people to play ranked matches on a regular basis. Having more people playing ranked matches wouldn’t just make the waiting period less tedious; it would also make ranked matches more balanced since the system wouldn’t have to widen the skill range as much.

There are a few possibilities on how to compensate and reward credits to ranked match players listed in the polls. Pick the one that you feel would work best, or pick option 4 or 5 if appropriate. Pick option 6 if you wish to express the zero amount of sh*ts you give about ranked matches.

but… but… there will be trinkets!

I don’t feel good enough to participate properly yet. I get a hard enough time in pubs if in having a bad day, I’d feel bad poorly performing, so I don’t play until I feel confident in going to do well. But that’s just me.

I mean going off of this piece I wrote, it’s still gonna be a pain in the ass to get people to play. You’d need to make this the thing to do, the default way to play, if you want it to work - and on top of that possibly add more than these awful trinkets we get that only you can see.

I would only play with a group of friends but since most of them play CSGO most of the time…

Free Trade-Ups/Trade-Ins.

Guaranteed Equipment Case per completed ranked game with a chance to drop Expert Cases.

a)Make it a 5-friends-mode-only
b)Make it a solo-team-mode-only
c)Give special shiat for people who frequently play it

I would play if there was an achievement system where you would have to do or kill a certain amount of players or different merc types with different types of weapons ie. like killing a rhino with a knife 100 times and this would grant you a rhino card with an exlusive skin you could even have different levels of achievements like level 1 was 100 rhino knife kills level 2
could be 500 and level 3 1000 rhino kills each level having its own reward

please bare in mind these are just examples killing a rhino with a knife would be a challenge in its self but probly alot of fun

there is alot of things they could do to entice people to play ranked

I play comp all the time, wish more people would get into it because queue times are pretty annoying, I feel like maybe adding other seasonal rewards aside from trinkets could help. Say 1000 credits for each rank past Silver 1 or something.

(darlingClaymore) #11

Rare loadouts for each event, ex if you win X comp get a special edition loadout case or card

(NightingaleZ0) #12

I really think a big part have to do with 5 men party que. I lot of people playing do not have friends that are online or even have friends to invite in the first place. Some are still a bit worried about balance or sucking very hard and ended up trolling others etc. A solo que will definitely help a lot.

It’s quite honorable that people here have looked past the algorithm and have focused on content.

That being said my two cents is that there should be more milestone incentives than trinkets.

Having seasonal incentives exclusively available in rank mode (for example, 25 wins gets a 6-hour credit booster, 50 wins gets a special rare load-out and 100 gets a trinket). Along the lines of that.

Milestone incentives would make the casual dirty bomb gamer more exposed to the competitive heavy side of the game and will inevitably get them more hooked.

The issue is pretty clear we simply have a lot of casual gamers and not enough competitive players on DB, no algorithm is going to balance that out and make our matches “fair”.

People are complacent with public server gameplay, its the quickest way to get credits, complete missions, and to level (an unpopular opinion but I agree and I do think XP should be given at a higher rate in ranked mode, due to the fact that I became elite at level 23 and others that solely play ranked level up at a much slower pace. For those that care about their levels and leveling, ranked mode is unattractive).

Personally, I would be hugely driven in ranking if there were incentive loadouts because everyone in this game including myself care about collecting rarities

(enigmaplatypus) #14

how about these incentives…

1.) you don’t drop rank (or rank progress) when you loose a match. (i hate dropping rank, especially when im a silver and im playing against a team of cobalts!)

2.) having special comp cases and load outs would be awesome. like have each comp match give a case that has a small chance of getting a special load out or/and have random drops of guaranteed cases/cards (basically like the events we have had, just have it only for comp).

3.) balance the teams, need i say more.

That’s why I think that credit and leveling compensation would make ranked matches more viable to the general population. If there was enough of a compensation for the amount of time it sucks from general gameplay, then there would be more people willing to play ranked, and then more people playing ranked means the algorithm works more effectively and specific ranks actually start to mean something.

My primary problem with ranked matches right now is that it’s assigning me to matches where there is a highly-competetive player and/or a handful of less skilled players that throw off the balance. If more people from all skill levels played ranked regularly, the matchmaker wouldn’t have to reach for players that offput the balance as much, but that requires reason for people to play ranked beyond simply being competetive.

Given that player ranks align perfectly with loadout card rarity, there is definitely the possibility of awarding special competetive cases of different rarity depending on rank at the end of a season along with the trinkets. Even so, that’s more of a long-term goal when pitted against the readily available benefits of playing regular matches, and handing them out more frequently would lessen their value.

  1. That defeats the purpose of having ranks in the first place. What good are they if they don’t accurately reflect your rank? :stuck_out_tongue:

  2. It would be awesome, but I’d be perfectly happy if they offered the regular Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Cobalt loadouts depending on rank as well. Still doesn’t quite cover the loss in credits and experience though, unless you’re winning uber-valuable Cobalt cards.

  3. The best way to make the teams more balanced is simply to have more people play. The more people who are playing ranked regularly, the less of a skill spread end up in the matches, and the more balanced they are.

(odie5533) #17

They should change Ranked to allow every level to play, and move Ranked to the top of the Play button Menu, and change “Quick Join” to be “Casual Play”.

Matchmaking should be the best way to play Dirty Bomb with similarly skilled players for everyone.

All of the above. Until they sort things out so that solos are not matched with pre-made teams, the experience won’t be fun for anyone. Incentives are fine, but they won’t keep people around if the game experience itself is not rewarding.

I agree. If I have to wait more than 2 minutes for a game, then get matched with 4 other randoms vs a premade, then I just won’t bother.

I know it’s partially a chicken and egg problem, but I’m not determined enough to be the one solving it.
