Not attempting to be difficult

First I must say, that this is not intended to be malicious in anyway, just a basic attempt to grasp what is going on.

I have only been involved in a few games that are in early Alpha/Beta stages. I hesitated posting this, just due to my inactivity and inability to get excited about this game. My main issue, that I see is that SD takes 0 input from the community on these forums. Granted, I do not believe with every change that a game called SMITE has made, but at least, they listen and communicate with the community, and make changes based on their feedback. Now I know that SD has put out some feedback e-mail’s, but I have yet to see what SD has compiled from those, and if any changes, has been at the hand of the community. At the end of the day, it is your game, and your company, but being part of WoW closed beta, and we know they take 0 community ideas, look at their decline over the past 2 years in that game, 50% loss of subscribers. I know you are working with a very tough community base, with it being FPS based, but I must stress, this community has skill and knowledge to implement ideas and changes to help your game succeed. No one is here trying to hurt this game, but I think the worst thing that has happened recently with these posts from DEVS is that the community is taking it as a slap in the face, and that nothing has been sent up the ladder that we have suggested.

They made changes based on community feedback this patch. Problem is they implemented this stupid agnostic character change and completely ruined their game by removing classes. Removing classes was the worst mistake I have ever seen a game make, ever. SD you have lost your touch. Coming from W:ET, to this piece of garbage you call dirty bomb. I can no longer support you as a game company if you don’t revert this change. “Captures the magic of ET” my ass. I honestly can’t believe you made this change. You should have kept things the same with classes and implemented the changes that were being brought up time after time after time and tested those changes. In the end if those changes didn’t work then you could have tried this agnostic character crap. You basically just created an awful TDM game with characters with abilities. May as well remove the objectives as well at this point. You basically made these changes because you had no idea how to make money otherwise. Game should have never been F2P to begin with. Could have charged a flat 15 dollars like CS:go did and actually made money off selling a cheap title because who wouldn’t pay 15 dollars for an enjoyable game? But instead your making a garbage game that’s f2p that no one is going to play at releas but maybe 2-300 people at most because this game is a heaping pile of crap. You’ve gone down hill every game you have created. You had your chance to redeem yourselfs with this game, and then you make some stupid change as to remove class specific objectives which was the basis and the center of gameplay. Now it’s TDM with medics, hooray.

Being very harsh saying they don’t consider community input.

I’m confused about your comparison to wow which happens to be one of the most successful games of the past 10 years.

Will comment more when not on mobile device but tbh people are being over dramatic in their hatred of this direction they are testing. Being loud doesn’t make your view and opinion open to reception.

Tell that to Microsoft

Still no start menu though…

They have added a lot of great stuff this patch that I think everyone thought was good, and then they added stuff that not everyone thought was good. They haven’t however made direct changes requested by specific player groups that don’t represent the full community. I’m down to try less popularly shared ideas just to get them out of the way personally, but it should be realized by now that no matter how much experience people think they have or what games they think were best doesn’t mean we all have the same ideas for how DB should be.

Most of the core features need improvement, but I believe they have noted that already. What necessary changes are you specifically referring to?

(Kendle) #7

Yeah, you can’t accuse them of not listening. They listen, and they do take stuff on board. But they obviously have a vision for the game, a vision which some here, possibly many, don’t share. At the end of the day this isn’t a democracy, and this game is not being built by committee. We’re here to test, not design their game for them.

reminds me of this :

(Kinjal) #9

Simple questions:
Who asked Splash Damage for “All classes can do all objectives” thing?
and
Why this change was made after months of testing?

(Kendle) #10

That’s not a relevant question, they’re not making a game to our specifications, they’re making a game to their specifications, and they can change them whenever and however they like.

That is a good question, a very good question.

“shaped by gamers” … remember ?
They just do what they want, we are just here to make some eco data … this is how we “shape” the game …

(en2ie) #12

I wouldn’t say they take 0 input, it could be more for sure - but then we would end up with ET2 (I know lots of people would love this ). You have to take into account that from feedback we provide now - we wouldn’t see the changes until a few months from now.

Yes for me the actual shooting (and hit feedback) is much improved, and the map colours look a little better. The HUD is improved too. Some of the new abilities are very cool, like ammo stations and molotovs!!

The classesless objs to me are a direct change made to ease the frustration of obj completion in pubs and make the game easier to cope with if you’re a particularly impatient type. It successfully relieved the frustration variable of those who play the ‘obj’ class and do a poor job or the fact that no one liked playing objs to begin with, but is a shoddy solution to make up for the faults in map/obj designs.

At this moment it is a very poor replacement to the meta-strategy involved with class only objs and it leaves the obj classes high and dry, as well as making the objs themselves feel a bit meaningless. The objs need improvement in both their interactive design and dynamic play, as well as adding an obj oriented class meta game again. The proficiency update may indeed sway my opinion, but like someone already said this poll is quite meaningless because this wasn’t meant as the final version of this test. Perhaps it shouldn’t have been released until this was completely ready for testing, but it hasn’t broken the game and it’s not like I was enjoying the 1 class only obj that much more beforehand either. I certainly don’t understand why people constantly act like they are here to play and not to test… if this hit during OBT I’d be worried.

And I thought I was the #1 guy who naggs about “Dirty Bomb” being another failure instead of being another success after Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.

Ekhem. I agree with post #2. This game went straight down to the trash. Even If It’s an alpha, It’s already broken. The elements on main page of Dirty Bomb such as “Not had this much fun since Wolf: ET” or “The new, old school FPS” grabbed my heart at first sight. The video trailer was kinda okay I guess.

I’ve paid 90 euro for this “game” just to see and feel the Wolf: ET style game. I was disappointed after I played first two matches.
There are few elements from Wolf ET but I barely feel them.

Some people brought also important thing “Shaped by Gamers”. I believe that for first few updates they really listened to community about guns n some “skills” balance.
Later they put wrong “fixes/improvements” such as picking up the objective and holding it. I immediately said big NOPE to this game. It doesn’t feel oldschool. If I want to play “more realistic” then I would go play Left 4 Dead.

Some people might know game called Loadout. But I will tell you that game in short. It’s refreshed oldschool game with new elements. Customization is endless* and yet devs really listen to community.

I believe the main reason many do not play objective, is you usually do better on your k/d ratio.
This aspect kinda falls away in competition, more or less, as its more important to win in the end.

So I really would like to see my suggestion there, that you can do kill while doing objective, but only with specific mercs. The rest can do the objective too - but slower and can’t do something else.

Overall when different speeds are implemented for the objective I don’t really see the problem with this change. I also don’t see how it breaks the spirit of ET.
For me ET is about objectives. The 5 classes, hm - gives some elements of thinking to it, but not really that much, if lets say you have 60 different mercs, each one with different aspects of “proficiency” (a new english word learned yay). It gives a much deeper thinking. I don’t know what SD has planned, but I believe going away from the limits of 5 fixed classes is a good idea as such.

There it is… people worrying about their Kill Death ratio is a problem. Should be more emphasis on setting a fast time, but with the way the game is designed the some maps will only be completed as fast as the EV moves(with lemmings making it move quicker) and to hear just 1 person mention that k/d ratio MIGHT be relevant is indicative of what could be a growing problem.

Also there is so much focus on forcing people to stay in a group by the way the game is being designed:

  1. Medic with healing aura to surrounding teammates - which we all know this medic is “OP” currently as mentioned by SD in game.
  2. Ammo station setup in camp spots (kinda relevant)
  3. EV moving quicker with people around it

How about pull back on the reins a bit and give a little freedom to choose how the game should be played - just give us the puzzle pieces and we’ll put it together how we want - not be tied down by how is determined entirely by game mechanics and maps.

Oh, less EV maps in the future please and thank you. With Waterloo you can definitely see that EV limits how fast objectives are reached. Waterloo should be more like 10-15 minutes - make people actually have to try and have fun again. If a map really can’t be beaten consistently with 20 minute times(What does Echo say about it?) that is likely the map design fault and not having truly even playing fields on both sides of offense and defense.

Playing the obj really had nothing to do with k/d, but rather the obj class was usually innately weak and you could do measurably more for your team by being a different class. That or sitting behind something repairing, etc was the most boring job in the game. IMO the slower/more stationary the obj type, the more boring it becomes- that’s why doc runs are so awesome and escorts are so bleeeeeeeehhh. When playing the obj class you felt like your actions were mostly limited to the obj that only involved pressing one button on the keyboard, while an obj like doc runs combined every classes’ skills on the fly to get it completed and felt totally exciting in of itself. This is why I’ve been complaining that agnostic objs could be good, but the traditional objs like escort/plant/repair are pretty meh as main objs no matter who can do them.

Do you actually think the aura med is OP? I think it’s just a play style and is strong in some situations and weak in others, but I don’t find it better or worse than the other medic. You get to choose what character you play anyway and it’s clear what the pros and cons of it will be. Of course your going to be ‘forced’ to play it in a certain way to be the most efficient just like any other class, so that doesn’t make much sense to me. If anything I think SD did a really good job with making two separate play styles coexist and I hope to see more.

(nailzor) #18

Glad you agree with my points.

The medic; it is OP, as SD devs have said so in game. The game has taken a turn for the worse over the past few months in my opinion.

Homepage says it captures the magic of ET, it used to be awesome I could not wait to login and play. Capturing the essence of Brink atm - constructive criticism to be honest.

Don’t confuse shaped with designed.

They’re designing the game, we’re keeping them on track when they veer left.
