Normandy Campaign Ideas

(Pog'S) #21

In ET, they used the term campaign for each settings : Africa, North Europe. Rather than use this way, we chose to name a campaign a set of maps that are linked together, as the term is used in Role playing games.
I think it’s better this way.

I suggest that you focus on one setting :
Do either Overlord / Battle of Normandy maps with mainly beach and bocage (Normandy specific landscape)
or
Battle of Ardennes with Bastogne, which are winter, forest maps

Even with ET definition of campaign, those 2 maps can’t be in the same campaign cause the settings are different.
Or do 2 campaigns …

We recruited a new mapper today that will work on our own D-Day Campaign featuring :

  • Pegasus Bridge
  • Pointe du Hoc
  • Ouistreham Casino

Maybe we could team together to create a full D-Day /Overlord campaign.

cryxibus we dont want to discourage you from building maps its just, danyboy has already put alot of work in the omaha map and it would be a shame if some1 else just build something just like

All I’m doing is presenting my ideas for anyone who wants to make an Omaha beach map. I just don’t want the new one having similar objectives to the one in RTCW (or be as small, yuck!), or have similar objectives to the one in ET (Sea Battery).

The ideas that I’ve compiled are a little more original than the first two (RTCW and ET). The only similarities are destroying the radio controls with dynamite as compared to destroying the gun controls with dynamite. But all I’m really asking for is a map that looks VERY similar to the real Omaha beach, and that means it would have to be a lot bigger map than the one in both RTCW and ET.

Once - “copy-cat” and it was a joke - as denoted by the simley

I know you were joking, which was why I ended by sentence with a  winky face. lol

You’re right but you could add Cryxibus’ ideas to your map and welcome him in your team maybe as he alos spent lots of time on his design.

You don’t understand… All I’m doing is giving ideas, I have no “design” unless you’re refering to the 2D overhead view map that I made using Flash, lol. I don’t need to join any team, my ideas are free for all.

why didn’t any start with the battle of britain yet? would be cool to fight on british ground some time as well. i dont know anything about mapping though.

Lol … even if the Germans had invaded the British Isle it would be nothing useful for us with this game since Wolfenstein only has American allies.

nah we keeping the name Operation Overlord and having maps in seperate countries - this whole naming this isn’t really that important

(Konigstiger) #24

iv been making a Omaha map for a year now

(Danyboy) #25

Cant help but feel sorry for that - lol

You not done after all that time? - I mean I’d say i was nearing 50% completion - between 25 - 50 % done - well brushwork - scripting may take a while - not tried any out yet

Hurry up and finish the map pleez

(Konigstiger) #26

accualy im making my own 3 map campaing which are

Omaha map, French Town map, Battle of the Bulge map
im not giving my map to someone i dont know :banghead:

btw i had to restart the Omaha map 6 times because of errors and other crap… Omaha beach is a very hard map to make. Im about 50% done now…

(Danyboy) #27

am working in team to do almost that

Map 1 - Omaha
Map 2 - Bulge (Bastogne)
Map 3 - German mountains - forget name now

You have quite a challenge there - to make a whole campaign on your own

I also lost maps - though it was hard disk failure - on my backup drive :’( lost all my mapping work

I am working on a fictional “battle of britain”, which includes a shipyard map, a radar map, and another map which i have not yet thought of. I first mentioned it here a few weeks ago:

Unfortunatly I lost all my work on it when my computer went haywire  . I plan on having some screens ready either by the end of this week or the week after.
