Noob mapper needs help :)

(.chip) #1

Hi guys, Ive started my first ever map after reading numerous tutorials and I have had no problems with my first couple of test maps but when i goto compile my latest map it seems there is only a test.map and a test.bak file and no others (like .srf or .prt) and it either crashes if i try an complex compile or gives up half way thru the basic ones as it cant find certain files. Any ideas as to what I’ve done wrong or what I can do to fix it?

Also alot of the textures arent there for me like floors/fences etc I just get red and black “shader image missing” icons. At least 50% of my textures are little red/back boxes, is this normal?

Last but not least is there anyway to get the original wolf textures imported into the editor?

Thanks in advance

Chip

what files can’t it find? Are all the missing textures (the red/black) from rtcw?

Also, rtcw textures can be imported into the editor, but afaik you are not allowed to distribute them. Therefore requiring everyone to copy the rtcw textures just to play your map. Basically no-can-do. :uhoh:

cheers for the reply womprat.

As far as I know it cant find the test.srf file (it hasn’t been made, i checked) and theres also no sign of the test.prt or test.bsp files either.

As for the texture icons, I’ve just checked in the ‘battery’ texture file and all the ocean textures are missing along with 25 odd terrain textures. It’s like that in most of the texture menus :frowning:

Its also a gutter about the normal wolf textures if what you say is true :frowning:

Hmm, sounds like a q3map2 problem. What compile is failing? Because the srf file should be generated in the BSP stage…
Does it make the srf from “BSP -meta”?
'fraid I’m just groping for answers now… :???:

The missing texture icons for terrain is normal (the texture is not applied directly to the terrain). Looks like there are also shaders leftover from rtcw that have no texture to go with them
