Non-class based objectives and the results
Mines --> I can shot them.

Turrets --> You must be joking

Sticky nades --> Yes, useful.
You would be amazed to see how they work well, but you have to master them ! You should hide your mines, they work wonders. The turrets with the engi nearby are great for support and the stickies are madness in interiors.

Yes, maybe vs. new players.

Turrets can be shot in no time and it takes ages to get them working. Putting them into the right spot takes too much time, when the thing still can be shot within seconds.

Mines beep.

Man, I get everyone with my mines, even experienced players because in the rush of the action you don’t look where you are putting your feet. Even when they are next to an objective. If they spot them, they lose time because they have to destroy them before.

The turret can help you bring down a few guys at a time, but you have to change their location often to keep the element of surprise. I like them because of that, you always have to plan ahead to be efficient.

Yes it doesn’t, but what I mean is that people sticking to engies being only due to “fun” is wrong. It is multifaceted, like many things in SD gameplay - a golden middle of stuffs such as fun due to abilities, fun due to non-underpowered weapons and feeling of responsibility for the objective which is based on forced and separate class abilities. Take one of them away (that is, make objectives agnostic) and you lose everything - noone plays that class/character. In this particular case - noone cares about fulfilling objectives because any other class can do and as a result, when something has several owners at once, noone really takes care of it, hoping the others would do.

Yes and engie IS underpowered, I wonder why is it still a question? For example Proxy. She has an ok shotgun, but her SMG is just meh. This character has no chance at ranges above medium and only the shotgun and mine can’t compensate for that to maintain the weapon fun component. I hope I made myself clear because this is a very complicated issue

It is of course a personal feeling, but hell, we have little data on our hands so mostly have to use the gut feeling and our observations.

Tackle the core problem of the characters weapons and abilities - we had exactly the same argument 6months ago when the soldier wasn’t being played and SD gave him the C4 so some poor sod had to play him.

And thanks God we had this discussion! Giving C4 to soldier was one of the best things that happened to Xt. If they only kept the abilities split by classes, rather than making them pseudo-agnostic…

I’ve been playing proxy for the last three weeks solid and through adapting my play have not struggled. So personally I’m not convinced she’s underpowered. I enjoy playing given the character speed the lame mine planting and ability to push on the objectives.

In close combat yes, but try that on trainyard…

People seem to forget that engies also have a decent secondary. But maybe they should replace that with something stronger. I dunno. Maybe fiddle with the abilities a bit more. I think it is a bit early to be messing with balance much. That is something they’ve said they’ll focus on later during beta testing. Pretty legit complaints about balance right now, but we’re still not even in CB. Making too much changes right now could just lead to extra changes needing later.

If you want beta tester numbers to drop quickly to minimum when CB comes out, then not focusing immediately on the weapon balance is the right way to go.

lose the handguns, give everyone 2 nades, no resupply

n+1. Bring back class-objects
n+2. Nades
n+3. Let me choose weapon OR ability. (i want my mines AND automatic weapon!! what is wrong with that?)

there were so many unreasoned desisions alrdy in this alpha. lets try to fix them!

Agree with this.
