If you compare a game to tf2 and say that that is good, you should just stop playing games.
Brink is not like tf2 at all. Classes are different, gameplay is different, HUD is different, Brink will actually keep it’s art style and sense, not like tf2, it also won’t have an cash shop, unlike tf2 where all you need to do is get your mommies credit card and sudenly you have more hp/can’t be headshoted/can stay cloaked for more time etc. Brink also won’t be so buggy and glitchy as tf2.
SO **** OFF AND STOP INSULTING SPLASH DAMAGE BY COMPARING THEIR GAME TO VALVES!!!
No TF2 spy like ninja play?
What’s ridiculous is that with your dramatic claims to protect the truth of recent history you’re actually talking about games.
Young people may have a lot of things to be forgiven for (like trying to grow beards and looking silly), but not knowing the holy scriptures of gaming is hardly one of them.
Wow, where did that come from?
My mention of “forgiving” was simply a turn of phrase - what do you think I am, some kind of Christian game-loving crusader? “holy scriptures”? I think if you’re looking for drama, you could try the mirror
You currently have hold of the “wrong end of the stick”, congratulations. Amazing that you then went on to mention “reading comprehension” in reply to someone else’s post - the irony meter is currently melting.
please nothing “from TF2” in Brink.
if [which is very unlikely]i wish TF2, i buy it, instead of Brink.
I think I’m in the minority here but I just didn’t like TF2. Whilst this game “looks” sort of like TF2, I can tell straight away that it’s far more in depth than it & for that reason it’s going to be amazing.
Can’t wait. :stroggtapir:

I must be in that same minority tbh. Never even occurred to me to think it was anything like TF2.
I suppose there are similarities when you think about it. They’re both computer games. That’s gotta be a big one.
The hate towards TF2 in this thread is a bit… uncalled for first off. The comparisons that people and more importantly media outlets are going to make are valid from a consumer standpoint. TF Classic was the genesis of class-based fps games. TF2 is by all accounts its “spiritual” successor with a myriad of new additions (that some may or may not like).
The younger crowd lets say those born post-DOOM era have never played any of the so called benchmarks of fps games (eg. TF, DOOM, Tribes, Quake, Unreal etc). You should be happy and welcome positive comparisons to TF2 or any other game that is a critical success. The average consumer doesn’t do heavy research and nothing sells a game faster than “Its got a good review and they say its better than TF2…”.
Lastly as for most of the comparisons not being valid wake up. “How does this Electric guitar compare to this Acoustic one?”. Both are the same instrument but with completely different qualities yet comparing them in many cases will be valid, and the same goes for Brink (especially in any case concerning the average consumer).
I like TF2. Under the right conditions. The problem is it tries to please everyone, rewarding luck over skill (in before ‘u butthurt?’)
I wouldn’t really call TF2 an objective based shooter though like Brink, ET and ETQW. Brink will have a much bigger focus on missions rather than ‘go make your own fun lol’. TF2 can be a very selfish game (in before blame the player not the game ;))
I expect Brink to be aimed at more skilled players than your average TF2 player, with all respect. I think you will get a better experience from this and more teamwork.
I can’t really draw many comparisons between TF2 and Crysis 2 with Brink. SD look like they’re making what they’ve always made, the skill of a quake game mixed with strong objective based teamplay.
You make some good points, but this one is pretty subjective really. Popularity doesn’t always equal quality, and it depends heavily on the observer in question. Millions of people in the UK read the Sun and Sport “newspapers” - does that mean they contain quality content that everyone should be reading? Hell no, it’s just a reflection on the state of humanity
Ahem…
Anyhow, what we’re discussing here (now, at least) is the topic of people’s opinions on TF2 - and people are quite welcome to hold whatever opinion they like, aren’t they? Within reason anyway. I personally cannot stand either Halo or Gears of War, but it seems millions of people disagree with me. Am I wrong? Not in my opinion - both are cheesy and hackneyed attempts at their respective genres that pale in comparison to other less successful games, and Gears seems to have been designed for 12 year olds. But hey, that’s just my opinion right?
Popularity does not equal Quality.

As bad as it sounds if comparing the game to Hello Kitty would guarantee a million more sales and a larger player base… I was going to say I would accept the comparison but I suppose even I have my limits.
Sadly that level of popularity does have its downsides (the influx of COD, HALO, and Gears fans which I also dislike).
P.S. - Yesterday I convinced 4 close friends who all play TF2 (amongst a myriad of other fps games) to pre-order Brink. How did I do this…
Me - Pre-order Brink
Friend - Brink I haven’t heard of it Ive been too busy playing “insert bad game” to stave off boredom.
Me - Brink is going to be awesome it has classes (TF2/T2), objective based (UTassault/Mag), idtech engine, with customization (APB) and parkour like movement (no example given).
For those offended that I didn’t use QWET for the objective based portion of my argument… well sadly I am the only one in my steam group who owns it.

It’s a tough one, I admit - and personally I think 8/10 developers would take the comparison to Hello Kitty, and the million extra players, and the villa with it’s own swimming pool
It seems that SD are of a different breed - and Locki has stated in several interviews his bewilderment with general developer attitudes towards the games they’re making, and their blatant lack of quality.
Obviously there’s a minimum level that you need to be above, to pay your employees and fund future development - but I really think SD would take a sensible, happy player base over massive earnings every time. They don’t plan to create more than one game at a time, so the extra earnings would actually be lost to tax payments and extravagant spending on tapir-related goods
You can try to slither away from the argument all you want, but i’ll start to actually tighten the grip soon unless you start making some sense. By slither i obviously mean the way you try to make it seem like you were casually commenting on something that wasnt supposed to be taken literally. You see? My drama is rethorical, theatrical. Yours is emotional.
Mine was intentionally ridiculous as i needed the colorful description to make you realize how immature it is for a grown man to be wranting about wether or not “kids” these days appreciate the origins of team based games.
Normally, i would not care enough to make a comment, after all people get upset over the silliest things, but you’re practially making these people feel unwelcome by belittling them. I’ve seen you make some remarks in other threads as well. If they are “young”, why don’t you be the grown up and cut them some slack.
Good luck being a nice guy.
Dramatic penguin will escort you out.
Both use overealism and both are class and objective based. THATS ALL! In general they are totally different, the classes in TF2 are abounds apart. cmon scout vs heavy. look at the difference. while in brink the only difference is the boosters u get. same HP same weapons. So u know. no diff rrealy.

I feel that I should point out that everything in the store that affects gameplay is also available from just playing the game.
I think the ingame store is a creative way to create income, nothing gamebreaking about it.
Come on now - you’re calling me silly, and now you’re being a bit silly yourself
I’m really not sure why you think my original comment was ranting - because I used the word ridiculous? Surely commenting that people should learn a bit more about the history of a situation before making inaccurate claims that involve that history, isn’t ranting?
Emotional is a very strong word
OK, I did say that it “saddened” me that TF2 was seen as the original class-based shooter. I was hardly implying, however, that it had caused me to seek counselling at the first opportunity
Belittling who exactly?
I made no direct attack on anyone?
I’ve re-read very post I made since I signed up, and to be honest I see nothing that should be warranting this kind of reply, nor the forum assassin attitude. I guess you’re being theatrical again
EDIT: Sorry, this is massively off-topic - I have sinned :infiltrator:
