No Sound At All

(Phalanx) #1

Hey guys,

I’m really enjoying Brink, but tonight I’ve had a bit of a problem. I was playing online and a new map loaded. The sound was gone. I heard there were problems, so I thought nothing of it.

The problem is, now all sound is gone. I have tried verifying game files in Steam, setting defaults on sound settings, reinstalling DirectX from the folder in Brink. Nothing works.

Have I missed something? I even get the problem in solo play and there isn’t even any sound at the start and menu screens before I start playing.

What happens when you type “s_restart” in the console? Does the game remain mute?

I’ve just tried that. The console shows the hardware shutting down and reinitialising just fine, but still no sound.

It shows 3 playback and 3 recording devices, as it should.

Other sound works while the game is running, such as if I run a youtube video for example.

Hmmm.

This might be a silly thing to suggest checking out; But if you’re on Windows Vista or 7, run BRINK and alt-tab out, click on the speaker icon in the tray bar (next to your clock, usually in the right bottom corner) and open the “mixer” window. Please make sure BRINK isn’t muted.

It’s far fetched, but still worth checking out.

You know what, you’re a genius!

I had no idea you could mute certain programs. I don’t know how Brink had it done, but it was. I unmuted it and it’s fine now! Stupid Windows 7, lol.

Thank you Metal-Geo.

You’re welcome to it mate!

Just don’t ask me why it was suddenly muted, though. That still remains as a mystery for me.
