No sound at all, tried every single hint of the web

Not sure if this will help at all, since I there’s obviously something causing the DX installer to fail, but I have a lot more XAudio2 DLLs in my System32 folder, going all the way up to XAudio2_7.

If you want to try just dropping the appropriate files in there and see if it helps, I’ve upload the ones that are newer than those you listed here:

WONDERFULL !!!

So DirectX install starts when I launch the game (from steam), and it takes times, and the directx.log stills shows the same errors…

BUT I NOW HAVE SOUND…!!!

It’s far from perfect:

  • voice is reaally low, even with volume at 100%
  • had to drastically down music volume
  • effects (shots, etc) to the middle.

It’s very cool to have sound now in this game, at last !!

Still figuring out why directx fails…

THANKS AGAIN DUDE !

Awesome! So glad to hear you’ve made some progress. Unfortunately, I don’t have an bright ideas as to why your DX installer isn’t finishing properly. Not sure what your time or equipment situation is, but I would simply try putting a temporary hard drive in the system and performing a new clean install to see if you can reproduce the problem from scratch or not.

I wish I could offer you some more targeted advice, but at least we’ve confirmed that the core issue is due to the few parts of the DX install that are consistently failing. Are there any command line options available for the installer to force it to produce a more verbose error log?

OK folks!

I think I got it… finaly.

I rebooted in “without errors – WITH NETWORK SUPPORT”.

Then, in this mode, I launched steam (not even in admin mode).

And for each game installed (currently BRINK, BFBC2 and MOH), I let it install DirectX in this mode. And … in this mode, it finishes well !!! \o/

So I did install DirectX 3 times, yes, lauching every of those 3 games installed.

I rebooted, and the problem is gone. Steam no longer tries to reinstall directx, I guess because now Steam has its flaged stuff in some config file…

So basically that’s all

We still don’t know if jfunk’s DLL in his RAR are necessary or not do install, so if any other person having the same problem I had, please test this method and tell us there, WITHOUT installing jfunk’s DLLs.

So:

  • reboot in “without errors with network support”
  • launch steam
  • launch every game installed at least once, as DirectX installs/updates what it needs to be
  • reboot windows in normal mode
  • enjoy? !

I really hope this will help,

jpa

Hey dude, im so excited to see if this works haha, but do you mean just reboot in safe mode?

(jpa) #26

Hey 3vild33d,

Yes! Safe mode with network support. Can you try this method and post here back if that works for you? I’m assuming you’re running Brink thru Steam ? …

If that works for you WITHOUT installing the DLL in the RAR posted here, then, we can mark this thread [SOLVED] and spread the news around other forums…

Thanks !
