No more servers..have PC gamers gone back to real FPS games?

(Sabiancym) #1

I played the first couple of days and there were plenty of servers, no problem finding a match.

I log on today to find only 9 or so servers with at least 10 people on them, 4 of which are passworded.

Is everyone else realizing that this game is terribly bugged and just boring from the get go?

That’s what I feared the most with such a release. The hardcore fans may be patient but with the vast majority SD simply doesn’t have any credit to waste. So in that way the rushed/shoddy (or whatever their problem was I’m not pointing fingers) release may have poisoned and shrivelled the playerbase.

ETQW simply didn’t sell that well but hit the ground running and developed a loyal fanbase. For Brink the opposite seems to be the case and now I know which of the two I, as a gamer would prefer.

Apparently Steam took a **** and crapped all over itself… hence no servers or players showing.

EDIT: Just looked now… 612 servers showing with quite a few populated or full

i can see more than just 9 servers http://www.gametracker.com/search/brink/?sort=c_numplayers&order=DESC

I think the problem is the in-game browser, which most people are going to use, only shows about 300 servers at a time and doesn’t display full servers, giving the impression the game is not being played. This happened to an even worse degree with Section 8 where you’d get literally 7 servers showing up with 2 or 3 people in them and a bunch of bots. It’s dissappointing and they need to change it IMO.

When I posted 612 servers, that was with the ingame browser… I don’t use the Steam one.

So… Brink isn’t a FPS? Weird.

COuld have been a server browser problem. Also the dedicated server software for PC keeps crashing & no one seems to know why or have a solution yet. I am considering taking mine down until they fix the issues and I havent seen a good number of players playing on mine in the last 2 days where before that I used to get 10-12 players on a lot of the time.

Nope.avi

Ingame browser displays full games and shows well over 300 servers

(ratioguy) #11

Don’t worry! It’s programmed by the guy who did the previous browsers. He knows what he’s doing. Ha!

(Protector) #12

Something happened with steam last night and Brink lost all servers… they were slowly reappearing though.

(Om3ga) #13

Yea, well i can see alot of full server atm.

(Hansi) #14

The number of online players of steam games can be seen here:
http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #15

I see over 1000 servers using the in game browser in NA last night. Some routers can’t handle all the ping responses and start to throttle replies. At least I think that has been the problem in some games.

(dazman76) #16

Kind of related - has there been even a mention of the lack of Brink on the UK Steam store since they said “Bethesda is aware of it” - we’re now almost 1 week after release day, and it’s still absent (or brings up an error if I follow the Store Page link from Steam). I’ve never seen a Steam release screw-up this bad, to be honest :frowning:

ETQW also got screwed out of a proper release player base because of that final delay. Remember it came out a couple months before CoD4 and Crysis 1 came out. I remember the hype around those two games overshadowing everything else at the time.

(ehrw) #19

Myself are waiting for a patch and dedicated linux servers before I can play more

The in-grame browser has NEVER ONCE returned a full server for me during the initial query. The only time I see a full server is when I refresh the initial list, or on a favourited server. Is there a setting or filter command I can do to show full servers?
