This could be a nice way to make current maps feel fresher.
Imagine underground at night, where the lights could be tied to new generators.
This could give recons like red eye and phantom more opportunities to assist the team.

Chapel at night is still reasonably well lit throughout. That just goes to show how fucking retarded it would be to play with the lights as a gameplay mechanic. Computing and rendering variable lighting is also more of a pain in the ass than it seems, or indeed, for what it’s worth.
Night variants would, gameplay “elements” aside, be simple, cosmetic, superficial reskins. As if the Loadout Cards weren’t enough eye-candy bullshit, now you want to have mappers redo the skyboxes and lighting on existing maps instead of making new ones?
Meh, only thing I would like to see would be snow around christmas
Even then, only if we get to pick up and throw snowballs at enemies.

You mean the new ones that take 2 years to release? Give me a break this game should have at least 8 maps by now. Might as well make night variants to tide us over until they finaaaaaaaaly decide to release a new map. That is when they stop putting so much focus on making loadout cards for the next new merc.
I think this would be pretty cool, but it’s not such a “have-to-do” thing right now for the devs.
