"Next Objective" mechanic

(Cankor) #1

So, watching that new gameplay vid, I noticed that when the first objective was completed the next one seemed to start like the first one did. In other words, there was a discontinuity while a cut scee played and then you re-appeared back in the world at a new point.

I’m not sure if this is just how it is in campaign mode so there is a pause so you can see the cut scenes, or if it is like this regardless.

If so, it seems like this would have some ramifications, such as not being able to head to the next stage as the existing one is winding down. Maybe the whole part of the next phases map is locked down (sort of like BC2 Rush mode)? So maybe no more havinga guy divert to move ahead and paev the way (like blowing the wall into the compound on Salvage while your mates are working on the mining laser).

Very different, if this is true is it another attempt to simplify things or is there a larger purpose?

I’m hoping it’s just a campaign play thing (where the fingers crossed emoticon?).

Was shocked when I first saw this at first, but I’ll reserve judgement until I’ve tried it for myself
So can’t say yet whether I’d rather this was for campaign only, or if it actually working fine in Brink when in free-play/stopwatch

I’m guessing it’s how some TF2 maps are made into rounds. Once once round is won you start at a new one and the old area is shut off.

I’m not sure how I feel about it, guess I have to play. Atm I don’t see it being a huge problem…

Looked to me to be a lot like the “stages” of Team Fortress 2. Maps cut into sections, with each section housing its own set of objectives. It’s not “dumbed” down, it just breaks up the map.

Would I like to see the maps opened up for enduring matches? I can’t say yet, if it’s anything like in TF2 though then I imagine the idea of a large complete map would be very appealing though.

since that vid is most likely not online, im gonna assume its only during the campaign mode?

(Mustang) #6

Campaign mode is the same online and offline so that has no bearing
And we don’t know if this is for campaign mode only or all modes (the break between objectives I mean, not the cutscenes)

hmmm, yeah. Obviously it’s a way for them to insert cut scenes, but do the cut scenes in between missions play even if you are in freeplay mode?

We also don’t know if he just cut the video there. It’s not like he doesn’t possess the basic ability to put a fade in/out into a video.

(Cankor) #9

Possible but I really don’t think so, seemed like the video was continuous, the full cut scene played and then next mission started.

(Linsolv) #10

Well, if you just assume nothing happened for 3-4 minutes, why NOT cut it, you know?

(SAI 9to5) #11

Came out of lurk mode for the first time in over a year to bump this. Any sort of confirmation one way or the other at all?

Oh, no. I can’t post the pertinent links to the relevant youtube videos. You can search for them tho  Don’t need everything official .
