Next Movement Test Patch

(Seanza) #21

It’s not as simple as that. Being able to sprint and shoot at the same time gives the aggressor (i.e. the person sprinting and shooting) a distinct advantage over their victim.

(acQu) #22

I think important is to at least once totally free up movement so we can test it!!

(Things like a strafe-jump system is also what i wish (also a smart button system would be nice, maybe also both systems combined), but this can get critical, since the concept (for gods sake) is modern shooter, which generally tends to copying real life physics and weapons).

(LeeStyle) #23

Allowing sprint + firing seemed to work fine in RTCW & ET, what would make it OP in this instance?

(Valdez) #24

If everyone can potentially be the aggressor, I still do not see how it is OP.

(INF3RN0) #25

I see sprint shooting as a way to counter a stationary camper. It also opens lots of other opportunities in situations where your being back raged, etc. If you could sprint shoot however, I would want it to be on a rechargeable timer. I don’t really understand the argument against it atm, but would appreciate more details. I don’t think there would be a reason not to test it in the future though, just to see if it works or doesn’t work in DB.

I could not agree more! I think the movement is by far the biggest problem at this point. I honestly can’t believe everyone isn’t more vocal about it. I really really think the movement situation needs to be priority #1. Fix the movement and make it fun before more “art passes” and stuff are done.

(kilL_888) #27

why have a toggle-able sprint if you can fire while sprinting? why should i ever get out of sprint?

a sprint bar would be a really neat thing. not a fan of unlimited sprinting power. adds a little more ressource monitoring/managing.

after brink though, dirty bomb’s movement is painfully mediocre. will there also be mantling, sliding, wall jumps etc.?

(kamikazee) #28

I for one didn’t like all that automatic stuff hapening. I would still prefer that the player has more control over what happens, at the expense of making such movements more difficult.

Then again, I don’t think DB is about acrobatics, so you might want to start a new thread if you want to continue the discussion on this.

I still need to make my mind up about sprint and strafe speed…

I posted this suggestion about sprinting should cancel the reload animation:

(zenstar) #30

I don’t see why we can’t try things out for a patch and revert it if people don’t like it.

(zenstar) #31

Fixing movement and art passes are done by completely different people.

(Humate) #32

It allows the victim or the one being shot first, to fight back because now they can dodge  It also allows players that are on lower HP levels to fight a full HP player with confidence, if they have more skill.

(tokamak) #33

I believe there should be more to skill than just bashing the A and D key in rapid succession.

(DarkangelUK) #34

If that’s all you think that happens then you clearly don’t have a proper understanding of it.

(INF3RN0) #35

Lolwut? #chars

(tokamak) #36

Do enlighten me what could happen more. You start tapdancing the moment you register you’re being fired at and you keep tapdancing until you figured out where you’re being shot from at which point your assailant start tap dancing as well an then the guy with the most steady aim wins. And then we call that skill.

that’s not what i meant either. even though the automatic mechanisms worked almost flawlessly, i would prefer more player control as well.

i don’t want smart, i want parkour’ish style of gameplay. when i sprint and press the crouch key, i should slide on the ground. if there’s a ledge i’m unable to reach with jumping, i mantle over it with the space key. if i jump against a wall and press jump again, i jump off of that wall, stuff like that.

(SinDonor) #38

There is.

I bash the A and D keys in rapid succession many times and when I do, I lose most 1v1 battles when faced against higher-skilled opponents. There’s definitely MORE skill required than just bashing keys.

I’d say the true skill is when someone can press the A and D keys in a more random pattern, taking into account the surrounding environment so they’re not bumping into walls, trees, and other stuff, actually utilizing cover during the side-step strafing, maintaining proper aim on their target (who is likely also doing their own version of the MC Hammer shuffle), and also being aware of other enemies/backup nearby so they’re not just tunnel-visioning on the target. The highest skilled players also throw in a few jumps out from cover to really mix it up.

I can do mostly none of that simultaneously without ending up running into a wall or two and spazzing out on the keyboard, which usually leads to me getting downed within 1-2 seconds.

So, yeah, it’s a bit tough for guys at my skill level to successfully perform these actions consistently, but high-skilled players who can do all that like it’s 2nd nature are going to be way more likely to survive encounters with opponents and down them.

(INF3RN0) #39

Being able to track a fast moving object and adapt your aim to its random movements isn’t skill? Sorry to say that your the only person who wants to turn the game into a slow paced tactical adventure… last time I checked the mission statement of DB it was all about capturing the essence of the ET genre. Your idea of skill is very self-indulging and borderline insulting.

(SinDonor) #40

He does like World of Tanks. Probably the slowest “action” game on the planet.

Tok, you should try HAWKEN. It is probably more your style. I actually really like the game a lot. It’s fun, and there’s no MC Hammer dancing.
