Next merc is Phantom (Katana, invisibility)

(NeroKirbus) #21

that may be true, faking a movement towards her, but not every engagement gives you that luxury.

(jazevec) #22

Trolling naders is very, very easy! They only get one chance to blow you, plus many are playing Nader because they think Martyrdom is overpowered and instant kill.

(prophett) #23

His cloak ability is basically infinite. Needs a longer cool down.

Yea, I killed a nader earlier, and he tried using martyrdom, I quickly jumped away and he told me some nasty words :stuck_out_tongue:

(sunshinefats) #25

The new merc seems to have the same problem from before…you can see him from a mile away when he’s cloaked. Why even cloak then?

(PinkFrog) #26

That is very situational. I had to play against tons of phantoms last night and i must say that depending on what is happening on screen, it can be impossible to notice the phantom. If you are alone and it’s quiet: no problem. If you are shooting at someone else, no chance to see or hear the guy over your own weapons VFX and sounds.

I don’t screem “OP” just yet because on casual servers, even the >10 ones, not everybody unlocks the full potential of the merc yet, but they can do some nasty stuff in buildings and narrow areas.

(jazevec) #27

This is just bull**** that you can spot cloaked Phantoms all the time. In heated action, it can be easy to miss proximity mines, or you jump into a proximity mine or a turret without checking because there are two enemies shooting you. Also the sound often comes too late. Phantom is a fast merc and if he’s running at you in the open you’re unlikely to hear it in time to make a good dodge. Even if you hear him, you probably won’t see him so whether you dodge in correct direction is guesswork. Plus, Splash Damage had the bright idea to make Skyhammer one of the free mercs.THIS MEANS THERE ARE JETS FLYING EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME AND YOU CAN BARELY HEAR ANYTHING.

(Volcano) #28

hear what i cant even hear footsteps in this game unless its on wooden floors, and if they were loud enough good luck hearing them over spam and gunfire

(spookify) #29

Sole Q is so freaking broke right now!!!

(eitsch0r) #30

actually this is the first merc to constantly make me yell “F*** YOU” at the screen when once more being speedy in a game built around this hasty action-jumb-limbo and then getting sliced open by someone well hidden before his attack.

literally … nearly every time (more like: after the first two or three times he gets me) … like just a big spontaneous outbursted f*** you. how do you play a game built for speed if you need to be sneaky and quiet to spot this one who makes sweet sweet love to a mother?

i find this remarkable because: no other merc makes me perceive it as dishonest and cheesy" … quite the opposite of for example the et covops who is running around in disguise as my teammate. with a disguised covops i had the chance to see and identify her as not my mate if i am cautious (although being still quick and hasty). Quite the opposite of this "i go invisible and slice all of you in a big infight where you will not be able to headshot me quick enough.

this is just the opinion of a single pug player who does not know if this merc is playable in a “more professional” way like organized teams against each other … they propably are more cautious … and there it might not feel this snarky. but for pugs … i dont know … my stomach says “me duhnt likez” :frowning:

It’s getting really tiring seeing players treat the shieldcloak like a pure damage sink and just popping it as they rush you down with long and double jumps and try to chop you up. There’s no pretense of stealth or of being sneaky. Horrendous design.

(Szakalot) #32

not if the design was to make a shield.

Imo the shield part of the ability is much more interesting than a silly cloak.

Well it wasn’t strictly a shield, was it? All the fluff for him emphasises that he is a sneaky stealth killer, not a damage soak with a sword who charges you head-on. Right now he is both.

(f34n0r) #34

Right now it’s horribly OP.

Pretty much 2 or 3 of them on a team clear out the server and everyone else quits.

(BioSnark) #35

Even if it were balanced, Phantom makes the game less fun (poll). I know a couple people who quit but hopefully they’ll return at some point and find a less frustrating experience.

The shield item should have to remain equipped while active as it currently allows players to blunder around like idiots yet still have time to line up headshots on whoever they run into, regardless of their awareness and the comparative reaction time of them and their opponent. Magical RPG first strike buffs don’t mix with a skill-based FPS. They should actually need to flank to get that advantage. I’m not even talking about how the shield works with the 1hit-kill, skill-free katana. The stealth element of the shield also rewards people for having the correct configuration settings so I do not care for its current implementation.

Regarding the katana, I strongly disagree with the addition of any powerful no-skill weapon. If it’s going to continuously fire, it should be dealing damage based on how long it registered a hit on the enemy. I can’t wave my smg/ar in the general direction of a group of enemies and expect each to take full damage from the whole magazine. Why is that considered acceptable design for a (rather long ranged) melee weapon?

I couldn’t stand to play long this weekend, even with double credits and while mostly playing as phantom to try to make it less frustrating to put up with the phantom cheese. Splash Damage, please make this character require more skill to be effective.

Hopefully most of this poll is reaction to an OP character more than actual opinion. I don’t see the problem with Phantom concept, the disguises we had before (ET/ QW / Brink) are on the same vein, and weren’t complained at all

(Loki.) #37

I dont recall the covery having a shield?

Plain and Simple…
Horrible character design… would make for a great character in say, Borderlands… but not a FPS MP game…

All weekend long, servers emptied one after another… When this POS OP character dominated a map…

and

Where are the DEVS? are there any post from them regarding this… or am I on the wrong forum…

(Nail) #38

Devs are busy, they know it’s all moan and groan, player counts haven’t changed

(BioSnark) #39

Player count should have gone up with double credits.

(Nail) #40

why ? everyone playing was playing, you think people are going to download and play just for double credits for a couple days ?
sorry, doesn’t make sense, maybe playing more but why would player count increase
