[Newbie] Replacing a model...?

(Killer-Duck) #1

Hi,

First of all i have no knowledge of modding or coding. Anyway I have some questions regarding models in ET:

[ul]
[li]1. Is it possible to replace a model in ET with another model(from ET)?
[/li][list:48c26c05da]
[li]1a. Would this, if possible, require changes in sourcecode?
[/li][li]1b. You’ll need a compilator to use the sourcecode, right? Well, Is it possible to use Dev-c++?
[/li][/ul]

Ah also, I’m talking about the player models.

You can replace player models by other player models.
You should take a look at the British Trenchcoat Mod.

It replaces the allied player models by the german models with other skin files.

Ok, i used Winzip to create a *.PK3-file, to my question: Can you edit the path for files inside a PK3/zip???

the easiest way (with WinZip) is to put your files that will go in the pk3 in the directories they need to be in OUTSIDE of the pk3, then drag the whole directory into the pk3.

WinRar is much easier to use(IMO), since it lets you create folders directly in the pk3.

um , get lightray3d , but it is unsure investition , because you can’t try export :S
All current player model changes ( except Ikonatto anime characters ) are changing only ACC, head, hat/helmet and skin …

No, Jaquboss, he wants to use an existing player model MDM for a different class. e.g. One way to get normal-looking german soldiers (without the long coats) is to change all the German player class .skin files to use the medic mesh.

Killer-Duck, look at the .char files and the .skin files for the player models. These are text files that define which model meshes are used for the player models.

um sorry, i read bad …
No1 said all …

Thanks for the help guys!

2 questions:

  1. Is there a way to edit MDM-files?
  2. Let’s say i create a *.PK3-file and start a server on my computer, how would I then load the specific *.PK3-file?

  1. Is there a way to edit MDM-files?

Maybe. As Jaquboss said (twice) Lightray3d claims to be able to do it, but you have to pay for it before you can export.

IMO, that’s too much of a risk.

You should do a search for the name “ikanatto”.
He has described a workaround for Max / GMax as far as I remember.
