newbie question

(Quell) #1

Hello,

I have created a one room map using one of the tutorials. I have created a info_player_deathmatch, team_ctf_bluespawn, team_ctf_redspawn, team_WOLF_objective (allies), team_WOLF_objective (axis). I have added mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs to the worldspawn. When I run the map using /sv_pure 0 and /g_gametype 2 I can not enter the limbo menu.

Any help would be appreciated.

make sure the coords are at least 64 units more than the actual size of your map. Quirky behavior if the 64 units is not respected.

Also, scroll up the console to make sure there are no error msg after being booted.

HTH

oh and it HAS to be a perfect square (coords).

(Quell) #4

That did the trick thanks! I had the mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs to the exact edge of the map not +64.

(CrazedFan) #5

Rather than measuing a perfect square just make some numbers up to get started.

Mapcoordsmins: 3200 x -3200.

Now ALL you have to do for mapcoordsmax is reverse the polarity.

mapcoordsmax : -3200 x 3200.

This will save you a lot of trouble while you learn.

Another way is to have the top-left corner (the mins) at -64, -64 and just find the longest side and add (or subtract if your on the negative side) 64.

Hmm, that doesn’t make sense to me, so it’s example time…

total length of the x of your map: 900
total length of the y of your map: -300
Mins: 0, 0
Maxs: 900, -900

Much better. I can understand it!

LaggingTom… That’s considering the map starts at at least 64, 64… What if it start at -257 ?

The best way to do it is to make a huge brush that will be bigger than the whole map (by at least 64 units). At the top left of the brush, while looking top down, the brush’s coords are there, use those as minsmapcoords, as for the rest, check the length of the longest side… well the rest is just simple math

Here is another method, that I’ve used sometimes: Make a square brush, 64x64. Click Edit on the menu, drag down to Scale, and enter two identical scale-values. E.g. X 5, Y 5. This will make the brush five times bigger. Look at screen. Does the brush overlap the map? If no, hit “z” (undo) and enter new x and y values. Use this brush for the minmaps and maxsmaps values. Delete the brush.
This method will always create a perfect, squared brush.
All in all, it is stressful and hard work, to get these minmaps and maxmaps coordinates right. And time-consuming. (Sometimes it takes, like, 2 minutes - or more.) Hey, program gurus, is it possible to make the editor more noob-friendly? Maybe a new version of the editor, that enters these coordinates automatically?
Or else… I want my money back.
Or a cookie.

why do you lot always have to complicate something that is really quite simple !

(MadJack) #10

death, who the hell are you talking to!?

(Genesis) #11

i have thesame problem… i did a map and all that… but i cant get into limbo when i start the map… does the mapcoordmaxs + mapcoordmins have something 2 do with the z-scale of ur map!!!.. because i havent been watching that…

(Mark.C) #12

im talking to YOU ONLY MadJack

LOL

death, you have a point

Rather than measuing a perfect square just make some numbers up to get started.

Mapcoordsmins: 3200 x -3200.

Now ALL you have to do for mapcoordsmax is reverse the polarity.

mapcoordsmax : -3200 x 3200.

This will save you a lot of trouble while you learn.

thats all i need to know, it works, simple as that

you confused the n00bie, you should be ashamed of yourself

Nuff said !

oh yeah and as for the z axis, until we get a 3D command map we wont need this, the coords are for the command map whitch is why the libo dosnt work

(Mr_Tickles) #16

Lol, just thought i’d say this for fun…
my mapcoordsmins and mapcoordsmaxs are smaller than my map, about 4000 smaller.

Lol, and my coords are set to +/- 5000 as it is, Lol

(seven_dc) #17

Don’t forget multible command maps. that allow you different command map related your z-axis.
http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=2694

But not to make everything complicated. I take my coors llike first I move my level (by selecting all) so that everything is right and below 0,0 coords. The I check is my level widers or higher… I mean like is my level:

High

OOO
OOO
OOO
OOO

or wider

OOOOO
OOOOO
OOOOO

And take the logest value like 20000 and add it:
max 20000 -20000
mix 0 0

bald pussy Cams

(Mr_Tickles) #18

Ummm, be careful with setting the command map to 20000, the reason mine is +/- 5000 is because i think my map may have gone over the limit for it’s coords. I would have set it to 10000 if it would let me but it kept crashing in limbo. Once i set 5000 it seemed to work fine. I didn’t find out the exact limit, probably because it wasn’t of too much consequence to me then, especially if the command map didn’t work at 10000. Ok, so a few of you now probably have the question of how it is going to work when it’s finished, … answer is, i’m not too sure.

(Genesis) #19

LOL…
i wrote my key as mapcoordmaxs instead of mapcoordSmaxs… same thing with mins…
it works now…

because i have done it b4 and everything worked me started to get confused…
so i was like this map im doing now is feckin high so that might b the problem…

btw a 3d command map would b awesome!

(=DaRk=CrAzY-NuTTeR) #20

yeah, hard to control but awsome

it would probably have to be an .md3
