New Vasilli mechanic, Focus

(watsyurdeal) #1

So, we remove insta gibbing from Vasilli…and instead introduce Focus, how this works is while scoped, a meter builds, this meter, when full, will allow Vasilli to instagib on his next headshot kill.

This nerfs quick scoping mostly, but allows Vasilli to hold down a sightline and get a particular pick on enemies as they come through. I also think that with this change, we can get rid of the sway while strafing.

(Gi.Am) #2

Imo there are two kinds of Vasilli players, those that sit in a single spot (preferable far behind the frontline) waiting to pick the enemy after they squashed their team, and those that are mobile, push forward and get the early picks, making life easier for his team.

A focus mechanic would benefit the wrong type of Vasilli.

(watsyurdeal) #3

Maybe, but the way he is now is actually an arguable problem in comp. Instagib on head shot makes it really easy for Vasilli to shut down pushes, and a good quickscoping Vasilli is frustrating to deal with.

At least this change forces him to be more selective with his picks, and nerfs quick scoping just enough to keep it useful, but not as punishing for the victim.

This.

Essentially, your idea would benefit competitive at the expense of casual, the latter of which has a much larger playerbase. You are completely right in your reasoning, @Watsyurdeal , but @Gi.Am hit the nail on the head with the collateral damage. It’s a downside that completely undermines your good idea…

(watsyurdeal) #5

Well, no offense but just because it appears to benefit the casual players more doesn’t really mean it shouldn’t be implemented. Bad players will be bad, no matter the circumstances, and the point of this change is to force people to watch a particular sightline, and for the Vasilli player in question to give up something in order to gib. This makes him rely on team support more to watch his back, and makes him just potent enough to be an alternative to Fragger’s nades, but not so strong that you MUST have another Vasilli, just to counter him. It forces him to be smarter about his positioning and aim.

What’s worse? Bad players who will likely play the same no matter what, or leaving Vasilli as he is, where he can literally destroy a push with 2 well placed headshots. You’re down 2, and it’s a 3 v 5 you can’t win.

This game is too quick for this

Oh please no. TF2’s Focus mechanic was infuriating for me. I mean come on, people die if they get shot blank in the face.

Funny story: When I first started playing TF2 as Sniper I was always confused as to why I couldn’t instakill people on headshot - Then I noticed something called the focus meter.

300hrs later - still a sh*t Sniper. Spy 4 lyf.

The focus meter is only on the Hitman’s heatmaker.

Spies are only played in Highlander 9v9 (where baddies go) but even then he’s still pretty useless considering people know how to toast a spy easily because of callouts.

@terminal I meant charge meter (silly me).

I’ve practiced tirelessly with my mates doing Spy stuff. When you have good teammate, the Spy is far from useless.

Trust me, I’ve played too much of that game, Spy is useless.
850 lobbies and countless pugs as Scout, 2.5k hours in the game.
There’s 0 reasons to play spy in 6s because it’s so bad.
only reason Spy is played in Highlander is because it’s Highlander; “There can only be one!”.

Honestly, after making it my business to understand Spy in TF2, yea I have to agree.

He is far too situational, and he depends too heavily on his team, as well as the enemy team to do his job.

He wouldn’t be so bad if he had just a little more combat prowess, 150 health instead of 125, and guns that were actually consistently accurate. Hell that’s the reason I used the Ambassador so much cause it was the only gun to get consistent kills with. Just the whole balance of that game is a mess, an absolute mess.

The balance is a mess because the weapons are balanced around pub player feedbacks.
6v6 games has basically every weapon banned (most of melees unbanned) because they are either not viable or just another silly shield-charge. Even if the weapons aren’t banned players prefer default because they’re way more consistent and viable (with exceptions). I don’t want to see SD go down this same path and I want dirty bomb to have actual varieties (even though tf2 was so much fun) so there can be more strategies besides play the game of “Who can pop uber last”.

Snoipah’s a gud jewb meight.

You can still instakill most squishies, but the heavier classes take more shots. Valve did a great job at suppressing the Sniper’s abilities in clutch fights while still making him useful.

It’s not Dirty Bomb though, TF2’s ideas don’t translate well to the closer ranges and quicker movement we see in DB. And we sure as heck don’t want baddies to camp the overview on Bridge and hoping to get a lucky bodyshot.

@terminal well yeah, he is a very situational but I can play him well so I’m chill with that. It’s probably why I play demo in comp the most. Spy is fun for crushing Gibus Pubs tho.
