New to q3map2

(Feel1ng) #1

Hi guys, I’m pretty new to q3map2 and I’m willing to learn. I would like to use q3map2 for movie-making purposes. I would like to know if anyone can recommend a tutorial or anything good for a beginner. Where should i start? I know “beginning” is the answer but can someone point me in the right direction?

Help greatly appreciated.

You should probably be a bit more specific in what you are trying to do. Q3map2 isn’t a movie making tools.

Yes, I know that :P. I didn’t make myself clear. What I meant was that I want to use it to make maps like supply, braundorf etc… look better. To add visual effects ( lights,… ), to achieve better quality overall, so I can use those edited maps for my movies.

I’m pretty sure that you’ve heard about a map named The Well Of Youth, well i’m looking to do something similar to this but on maps like supply, goldrush, beach, adlernest,…

I like this specific effect very much;

Click!

Or for example, I would like to transform those “boring” lights on goldrush to something more “dramatic” like this;
Click or this.. I hope I made myself a lot clearer now :slight_smile:

it seems that what you are after are mainly post processing video effects that are completely separate to q3map2 and even ET

learning to use q3map2 is not a very difficult task however q3map2 only compiles source .map files to .bsp files used by the game
.map > q3map2 > .bsp

for adding and changing things like lights what you need to be doing is altering the source .map file. You might find this quite difficult as someone who is new to mapping would probably find it harder to improve to the visual quality of a map made by a more experienced mapper. Secondly you would not be able to record a demo on say gold rush then run the demo in your altered map. You would need to record the match on a server playing your new map

and final out of the four maps you mentioned AFAIK only 1 has the .map source file openly available. So unless you were to somehow acquire the source .map of them you would not be able to do what you want even if you were an extremely talented mapper

You can also go the other way, but the results are less than perfect.

yeah i purposly ignored that since hes trying to improve the visuals of the map and seems quite inexperienced at mapping so trying to decompile a map then get it running better than the original imo is pretty much out of the question
