New To Brink: The Good, the Bad, and the Sad

(noupperlobeman) #1

Just bought Brink yesterday after a week of watching youtube videos about it. I didn’t bother reading reviews because most reviewers bias and are utter dunces (check out the Duke Nukem Forever fiasco). I was very excited to get it home and play it.

I’ve been hooked from the get go. I couldn’t sleep last night because I was trying to come up with new classes and playstyles in my head (the bad)! I’m assuming this will disappear as I log more play hours, but I expect to be playing for quite some time.

So where does the sad come in? The shrinking community, and the bad reviews. I hear around the net that the gaming community is giving Brink a bad rap, and that the size of the player base of Brink is relatively small. Good thing Brink has the ability to play with bots.

I’m going to assume it is getting a bad rap because it is not one of the big three (Call of Duty, Halo, or Gears of War), and people have gotten used to being spoonfed the same franchised content over and over. But why the small playerbase? The game is relatively new

What gives?

There are many reasons for why the game gets a bad rap and a good rap depending on what system you are on, what style of game that you prefer, and whether or not you are willing to wait for bugs, and fixes to be sorted out. Basically, the game is fun for those who like the style of Team Based Objectives and if you were able to stick through the growing pains of some hiccups at launch. Now is the time to jump onboard since free DLC is imminent. I am on xbox, so feel free to add me if you want to game.

Good to hear! I agree that team based games aren’t most peoples cup of tea. I’m starting to shy away from the call of duty type stuff because of the lack of teamwork on objective game modes.

My gamer tag is Napalm172. I’m on most days.

The PS3 fanbase took an enormous hit with the PSN being out of commission for the first ~3 weeks of Brink’s existence.

The X360 fanbase took an enormous hit with the lag issues that were as severe as they were inexplicable.

The PC fanbase didn’t have nearly as many issues as the PS3/360s players, but they too had their fair share of launch bugs.

The big titles (CoD, BF, Halo, GoW) could easily survive these same issues, but only because they have a fervent following. Brink is a brand new IP, so it’s struggling mightily.

Its was like 10days for Ps3 not 3 weeks…

Game is on sale for $40 bucks all over now, people will start buying it and giving it a chance, its basically a new $40 game and its somethin I wish more companies would do. MORE PLAYERS is better then MORE MONEY… Have about a dozen real life friends seriously considering getting it by the time the DLC comes out for both consoles. I dont mind that I paid $60 though, I WANTED to support this game from day 1.

Well, it felt like 3 weeks!

That’s for sure!

I’m just not going with that. It had the potential to be one of the big four, but for that to happen it had to hit the ground running instead of making a nose dive.

I wouldnt say a nose dive but more like taking off and not checking to be sure everyone was on board, then making a safe crash landing in a river ala Captain Sully in the Hudson, saving everyone and ready to come back bigger, better and more respected then ever.

Not to get too picky here, but what about Battlefield? As something of a plug, BF3 will be much better than anything COD releases, particularly on PC.

With the updates that SD continue providing, I still think that Brink can be something of a sleeper hit, like Borderlands. I still have friends who play this on occasion, and I will never sell my own copy. Hang in there! Brink 1 will not be challenging the big boys (as it were), but SD are learning and Brink 2 will be much better. But in the meantime, we have DLC and such to look forward to.

That caught my attention too. No BF listed as “the big ones”.
I got some news for ya, BF3 is going to END CoD.
