I’m pretty sure everyone who plays DB is aware of the merc rotation system. While it isn’t terribly flawed, I have a suggestion for a new system which a lot of players will find more interactive and more interesting to manage outside of gameplay.
While three mercs a week is not a bad deal for players who own none of them, sometimes new players buy a merc just to have them on rotation the next week, leading to a lot more players to play that merc, putting that player off that merc. This may not be a huge problem, but I have a solution that both old and new players will enjoy.
Simply put, at the beginning of each week, players get 3 "merc rental coupons. With this, they can “rent” up to 3 mercs a week, and at the end of that week, the merc is ticked off the coupon book till the next month. This means that you can build a merc deck you’ve been eyeing for a while and use it for certain games for that week. One week you could group phoenix, fletcher, and fragger for games in a week, and the next you could try out proxy, sawbonez, and arty. This will help players learn mercs even when they don’t have the time to play them during the one week they are available for more than a month. When a player has time to play the game, they test out the mercs they want.
A few changes need to be made in order to prevent abuse of this system. For one, even though you get 3 tickets a week, 4 or more tickets is impossible to obtain, meaning every extra ticket is deleted. The coupons could even be color-coded, with week 1 being green, week 2 being blue, etc., making the system easier to manage on the back end. Another big change is that you Cannot use loadout cards for mercs you rent above silver. This seems bad, but it promotes trying out an array of loadout cards and reduces the habbit of putting off buying a merc because it makes no gameplay or cosmetic difference. New mercs will also need to be put into a “hands-off the merchandise” category, where they cannot be rented till a month after their release, promoting their purchase early on. There is also the issue of getting player interest every week, but I may have a solution to that as well.
Every week, a new merc is put into the “clearance rack,” making them cost less for that week only. I’m not sure of the statistics, but I’m considering either a flat 50% off for both credits and cash, or a 40% off when bought with credits, and 60% off with cash. This promotes players checking in each week on which merc they should work towards earning, as well as promotes a more fair system for buying mercs with real cash. Not only is $4 easier to swallow than $10 for 1 merc, helping the individuals, it also promotes players speculative on spending money on a free 2 play game to accept the idea, creating more consistent cash flow for SD.
I hope you guys look over my ideas, and I would be happy to be your new head of economics SD
Real talk though, I would appreciate if people on the forums took the time to review these suggestions.
