sorry to be the harsh one but the updated screens only show that you have spamed a few of someones elses palm tree models about and they also look to be all the same size and height and doesnt realy have the variety you would expect to find

also some screens show that when drawing only the skybox and some of the trees you getting about 60fps now tie in terrain, building, player models etc etc you might find yourself in some pretty bad fps issues

sorry, Iam naughty and I make joke, I post this palm because you were searching for jungle. I dont know if it is good idea to make map in environment of jungle, what you think about this??? Create good map and good terrain is hard work ,I dont know if I finish this map, Idea to make this map in this environment is good.What you think??
Iam not experienced mapper and I dont know what value of fps is good.Iam still learning mapping, but I love it

if you can keep at least a constant fps of 75 or even >75, then you’re on the right track

IMO that’s pure nonsense… FPS depends greatly (if not completely) from your own system… i cant even reach 100 FPS in a box map… so why would i try to get 75 FPS in a big map i made? i will never get it with my system… not everyone has the money / parents to get a €1500 super computer… :moo:

my latest build was $650 and as it is now it’s overkill for ET. you need to get a friend that knows what they are doing to build you a decent machine.

Kic, a jungle map is not a bad idea but it will take more than just tossing around some trees. think about what makes up a jungle - lots of running water, thick tree canopy, lots of vegetation of all kinds(not much grass, mostly leafy type plants), very uneven terrain(sharp slopes, bluffs, cliffs, sudden depressions or hills), mudslides, waterfalls, bare rock is usually moss or slime covered. and that’s before you get to animal life. all of this could add up to something that is beyond the rendering engine.

if you want to do this still, i recommend you don’t make it the feature of the map but more as a side offering. like maybe a small strip of jungle between two indoor installations. just remember that even though you can clip a tree model with a simple tapered rectangle clip box, the engine still has to render all the triangles that make up the model(generaly speaking).

true true however if your hitting 60 fps when rendering the trees then you pretty likely cutting out players on similar systems. a good indication is to try and get similar fps as you do on the stock maps since anyone who plays ET already is unlikely to have bad fps on a your map

I’m talking about a good competitive map here, because bad fps-maps get nuked… I for one don’t own a high end pc, but when I play, I play tweaked… and with these tweaks I boosted up my fps alot (I don’t mind turning in beauty for fps, but that’s a personal choice we all have to make)

So if I play a map, and I don’t get a constant 75fps with a tweaked config (with possible exception of ffe and/or airstrikes), than that tells me there’s something really wrong with that map (design-wise), and as a result you won’t see me playing that map again until a new version.

yes, but my point was that every PC is different, and if I can’t get 50 FPS it does not mean that nobody can get 50 FPS…

50 FPS is very reasonable in on my PC… and if 60 FPS is very reasonable for Kic, then there is no problem for him to be having 60 FPS… you cannot judge his map on that

I’m not judging his map, he stated he didn’t know a good value for the fps… and I just replied with my look on how much fps I wanna see with my config.

So if he’s playing non-tweaked on a normal pc-configuration (not some high-end machine) and gets at least 40-50fos than I would be satisfied.
