12 years of competitive fps in Quake, Wolf:ET, ETQW, COD, Natural Selection

CPU - i7 3770k @ 4.5GHZ

RAM: 12GB
Performance:
Game runs quite well for me, I am 100+ at all times with the game maxed out. Later on down the track I would like to run a miniamlistic config (white walls, green player textures, no shadows) if this is possible to max performance.
HUD:
It’s quite difficult to provide an opinion on the HUD, I personally like a minimalistic approach with options in the menu to enable/disable less/more if required.
Currently the HUD is very clean and small, I love it.
Damage Feedback:
Is there a difference in the sound between body / headshot? It must be too small for me to notice, the sound in wolf:et / etqw was much more noticable.
Damage Stats:
I’m aware that this is obviously constantly changing between each patch, but it would be great if the game showed
- Maximum HP for each class
- Damage for body/headshot on each weapon
Last night I had to sit in a server and test manually on people AFK counting the bullets for headshot/body shot with different weapons. It would be great if I didn’t have to do this for every weapon…
Cooking Grenades:
Perhaps increase the noise of the grenade ticking? I find it very quiet and difficult to hear when firefights are occuring.
Weapon roles:
Even with ETQW, Wolf:ET experience, I have difficulty guaging what role each weapon plays in combat.
I originally attempted to play the Assault primary weapon like the GPMG from ETQW, however it seems to play like an smg? I seem most effective when strafe firing tracking peoples heads with all weapons instead of just the smg.
Class distintion:
Perfect. Can’t really go wrong with a proven formula, don’t change this.
Shadows:
Is there a cvar to disable shadows? Shadows really is a performance killer
No Vehicles:
I love this, most of the frustration I experienced from ETQW was dieing to vehicles. Small fast infantry combat = 1000x better
Spawn Waves:
There seems to be no downtime… You shoot someone and they return to combat because of the small maps insanely quick. Defenders should be 1.5x longer to respawn then attack
Secondary Objectives:
Most likely not applicable due to how small the maps are, but capturing forward spawn points was always a positive thing in WolfET and ETQW. I enjoyed this part of the game
Artwork / Style:
I think its great. The maps are nice and clean, the models look great and they’re isn’t so much damn eye candy to detract you from your ultimate goal - tracking peoples heads.
Graphics
No complaint here, pretty standard for a Unreal Engine 3 game. Good enough to draw in the crowd that only plays pretty things, clean enough to draw in competitive gamers.
Disable Gun model:
Is there a way to disable the gun model so you only have a xhair on the screen?
/ui_showgun 0 ?
Maps:
I have not played the maps enough to give any opinion on them. They don’t seem like the massive bottlenecks experienced in etqw, but i’ve yet to experience the game with anything more than 3v3.
Gameplay
Fantastic!
It really feels like i’m playing infantry only ETQW maps, or wolf:et with modern textures. I have absolutely no complaints, as soon as beta is released I’ll be messaging everyone I know from wolf:et and etqw to come try the game out. Fantastic job
Features missing
I don’t gloss on this, as the game is still very early in alpha. But i’ve seen your development list which is sticked and you are going in the right direction. Keep it up!
Over all Impression:
Guys, this is by far the best Alpha I have ever played. I’ve seen fully released games from huge companies have less polish than Dirty Bomb. It really is impressive and its great to see a company try and remake a game with an old school gameplay model. There is a huge demand currently for a modern competitive fps to be released and I think you’re doing a great job of meeting that demand.
Just need to add 5v5/6v6 match making into the lobby and its a winner.
