New modes

I recently saw a couple of interesting ideas for new game modes. I especially liked the KOTH (extraction mode) idea of @Watsyurdeal
forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/comment/214182#Comment_214182

I got an idea for another gamemode. (I mentioned it on the forums a long time ago but I forgot where) This was a game mode used in 2 games called Section 8 and Section 8 Prejudice. Now it was a game mode that I absolutely loved playing. It basically was a conquest mode mixed with some side objectives (they called it DCMs or Dynamic Combat Missions. The game would switch randomly between these side objectives (there were about 9 different ones in Section 8: Prejudice).

People had to fight for 3 or 4 controlpoints. Capturing and securing those bases would give you points. If a controlpoint is in your teams hands for some time then you get some more points.

Meanwhile the side objectives will give you also some points if you succeed in them (not as much as captured controlpoints though). For example if you capture a jammer then you’ll get 25 points. These side objectives weren’t in the game to only score some more points. For instance an airstrikemarker which you placed near a base, meant that there would be an actual airstrike that destroyed all the defense mechanisms of that base. Securing a jammer would mean that the enemies couldn’t see you on their minimap in a certain area around the jammer, etc.

I think this could also work in Dirty Bomb as a game mode. Some of the side objectives can give you an extra bonus like for instance capturing a jammer would help for a certain time to deny the heartbeat sensor of Vassili and the snitch ability from Aimee in a certain area around the jammer. That way your team doesn’t get spotted in a certain area.

Simple things like for instance the delivering of an object would also be possible. Something like for instance a battery that would have to get delivered to a device. The device could then create a small dome around a certain area in which the damage of airstrikes, artillery and lasers would be denied (until the enemies destroy the device). The airstrikes of your team would still have effect in the area.

Another possibility would be an outpost mission. Try to build an outpost. If a team manages to do that (and the other team can’t prevent it) then the team that built the outpost would get some extra points for building it and some extra points as long as the outpost doesn’t get destroyed. The team that lost that mission will have to try and destroy it as soon as possible.

It adds a bit of depth to a conquest mode and it would also allow for the objective focused gameplay of Dirty Bomb.

On the top of the screen you see the controlpoints you can capture (either 2,3 or 4) and on the right you see the timed side objective. Once the time of the side objective is over then the teams would get a random new one.

They also had a couple of variations of each map. (large, medium, East and South) so that it would fit for the amount of players in 1 match. Want to go 6v6? No problem pick one of the variations with 2 controlpoints. 8v8? Pick a medium or large variation if you want.

I think this could be a fun addition to the game. It keeps the simple idea of a conquest gamemode but varies it up and makes it more in depth than most of the conquest modes in other games. It actually is one of the only game modes that I never got bored of.

What do you guys think?

We don’t really need new modes. Maybe one day a long time after the official release but not anytime soon (maybe in the end of 2018).
Right now we just need balancing (both merc balance and team balance), more maps, smoother and nicer game (fix bugs, release updates faster, optimize the game etc.) and other things that take a huge priority over just new modes.

The release of execution was a complete mistake, the time they wasted on coding it and making the maps would’ve been much better if it were used to make 2 maps for SW/Obj (instead of the 3 exec maps) and the time used on coding the gamemode itself could’ve been used on bug fixing and Turtle, we don’t need SD to waste more time on new modes that are not even guaranteed to be liked while there are so many important things that need to be done first

This game for sure needs new modes. Yes it might split the community more however OBJ mode is pure garbage and even my beloved SW is kill to win (meat grinder)…

The problem with execution is that it doesn’t focus on objectives which this game is build around. So yeah that was a mistake as well imo.

Maybe (I don’t know for sure since I never played an execution match) SD could change those maps around a bit so that it would fit for another mode. That way they don’t make those 3 maps go to waste since Execution is not a very popular mode. And they would have a new game mode and 3 new maps (for the players that never played Execution).

As for a new map I agree. That’s something that I would love to see. Dockyard can’t come soon enough (even though I’m not a big fan of the endlessly long corridor in that map). It would be nice to add some variation again. So I definitely agree

As for Turtle… He’s cool and all but we already have 19 different mercs. I personally feel like a new merc wouldn’t have as much of a long lasting impact as a new map or mode. We have 6 maps now and 3 game modes (one of which is not liked a lot and the other is exactly the same idea as objective but with the only difference being that you have to do both sides of the objectives). So it’s bascically one game mode (that is liked) and the variation on it. I honestly feel like a good new game mode would add a lot more variety than 1 new merc. But that’s just my personal opinion.

And yes there’s always a possibility that a game mode isn’t well liked. But this is a game mode that was absolutely loved by the people who played the games I based this idea on. + It focusses on objective playstyle (which is something every Dirty Bomb player likes) unlike Execution.

And look at Dome… Not many people like that map so the same could be said about a new map… What’s the point of the development time for that map? It’s barely getting played on…

That’s the thing with game development some things work, others don’t.

A new mode could also get new people interested. Mercs you have to unlock. Maps and modes are things new players can immediately enjoy.

I’m also wondering. People ask SD to balance the game but we are also asking for new mercs. A new merc can easily destroy the whole balance again (look at the first introduction of Phantom). So we have 19 at the moment with a 20th merc they will have to rebalance again (which gets harder and harder, the more mercs you have). And after that people will probably be asking for Javelin => rebalancing again.

The problem is that there are already complaints now that some mercs feel useless or less viable. The more you introduce the more balancing problems you are going to have and a higher chance of making other mercs more obsolete.

Sorry for this overly long post.
