Looking forward to that Schubi.

New stuff implemented:
Score limit cvar implemented, g_scoreLimit if zero use time instead.
Bug with disapearing ball when leaving server fixed.
The ball now returns to spawn location after 30 secs if not touched.
“Radar” implemented for ball dropped, team player carrying the ball and if having it the enemy goal.
Plus a few other fixes no one will probably even notice :slight_smile:

hi schubi, nice idea, but i should test at the beginning how high the ball can be shoot…before mapping a goual wghich is not reachable…

You still need to have a trigger that you can walk through though, something more rugby like would work better imo, it’s not american football but oh well.

in schubis idea the result is only, that you can score by thrwoing the ball, in your way you can score by moving into the door or throwing…

or am i wrong ?

Lanz, maybe instead of incoporating graphics into the maps themselves, you should make some general shaders and objects which are then placed by the maps scripting (like the map script which places lms flags/supplies, you would just place your goal area, and define such areas).

By doing so you could incoporate powerball as a valid gametype which would be easily playable on all maps just by downloading updated mapscripts from servers. (1kb script per map)

I wish you best of luck, i think it could be a very fun game to play on those late nights =]

Hmm, you mean you define the triggers directly in a script? Sounds interesting, could work, a bit like D!ABLO’s in game editor but simpler… hmm definitely something to think about later on.

A lot of the the things i did on etsquad were basically looking at existing code and following the same pattern, that’s why must of the code i added were a few lines per feature.

The maps store specific data for certain gamemodes, for example lms has different spawn points and health cabinets, while the smart point are that maps reference stuff which is hardcoded in the engine, so for example they pinpoint a certain spawn position and the engine does all the rest.

Just like maxlives are for lms, points can be for powerball, and since the ball is a weapon it is gametype independant.

Yeah I know what you mean, but it’s not that simple really. Yeah the ball is gametype independant (not a weapon though), but the scoring system is not. You can still use another gametype and end the game based on a script instead though.

I didn’t say it was simple, and i know the code well enough to know it isn’t.

But isn’t the game supposed to have no objective ?? i mean just like a football game where there’s a given time and the team with the highest score wins ?

Well sorry but i did not mean to petronize, this is your mod and your thoughts i was just trying to give some design suggestions based on the code snipplets i went through.

Yes that’s correct, but people will still have individual xp points for kills and a possible command post etc. Those points are also transfered to a big pile as team scores. So what I’ve done in is to separate the individual score with the team score. To do so I had to add a new game type or break existing game types. So I went for a new gametype instead. Well just a general cvar would have worked also but I don’t care that much about the maps in the game anyway since they would be lousy for this mod.

Look in your server.cfg file. If you see a line in there that says:

exec campaigncycle.cfg

Comment that line out and replace it with something like:

set map1 “set g_gametype 6 ; map pb_arena1”
vstr map1

Lanz… I am new to scripting but i can make great(Detailed)maps but i cant scrip(explanes why i dont have any out doesnt it) i have tired to learn how to script… besides that i want to help you with maps for your mod… E-mail is Blaster_jr@hotmail.com if you wish to e-mail me

Another thing. i cant get the throwball to work(wont let me set a key) the mouse just centers and goes back when i try to set a key!

Other than that-Great Mod for ET(played someing exactly like it on quake but it was more like yours(could throw ball) yours will match more modernly than the one quake has!)

Yeah the version out there is buggy, I do admit that and more or less released it to get some attention from mappers etc :slight_smile: So binding a key to throwball is borked but /bind x throwball works though.

Scripts are the least problem, here’s one of my scripts as it looks like now:

Thx Lanz… Ive looked for tuts, But there not around anymore all i get is mostly dead links or garbage when i search for scripts, But as i said i can make Great Looking But Detailed maps, i can do almost anything that required 0 scripting.

I would show you pics of my newest map but

Map wont load? Set your basic coords. See mapping tuts. Or it could be your using things that NEED scripts and wont load without them?

To take shots from within radient use the Print Screen key on your keyboard. Set everything the way you want and hit Print Screen (Normally above Insert Home etc). Open Photoshop/Paint/Whatever image app you use and use Paste. This will copy your desktop the exact way you had it when pressing the Print Screen key. compress it then save it.

Here are pics of my map(cant get very far Radiant crashes before it can ever auto save)
Like i said Radiant keeps Crashing, i did all the work with the Radiant tools (except for the floor terrain) used hl2hm_096 for that.



These Are Comming From My Website (if Anyone wants to see it go to http://www.freewebs.com/blasterjrsfiles/etdownloads.htm ) that is for the E.T. Section i have a max of 7 pages (i think) and i have 3!

The Website is just new and has no files for download(Yet) the links are gone so you cant even click on them! Working to fix this(watch out it has loud music) or atleast to my computer it does!

Lanz if you want me to set up a page for powerball i will K*

Will also give you access to it(if you wish) I dont have any problems with this as long as i dont run out of pages (I have like a 50-75MB capacity)

Ohh and pgh my map coords are like -64 6000 and 3000 -64 (these are not acual just close to what i remember), got it working with /map instead of /devmap!
