New Mercs brainstorm thread

So we have 1 more Assault, Recon, Medic, and Engineer on the way, so my question is what do you think they will be?

Medic: Something with assault Rifles I hope
Recon: BOW AND ARROW???
Assault: I have no earthly idea, maybe a Flashbang merc, 100 hp with max speed?
Engineer: Something, anything, to compete with Fletcher

Merc: Mechanic

For an engineer, I think it would be nice to have a some sort of a hacker. Maybe give him/her a high-tech or rugged steampunkish design? Haven’t touched consoles in ages, but Baird from Gears of War comes to mind. I want an engineer with a personality like that.

!

Primary ability could be working on objectives from a distance with, say, a computer arm gauntlet thingy or some weird tool with an antena. This ability could also be used to hack enemy equipment and make it friendly. Don’t have an Aura or Turtle on your team? No problem. Kill one and your new engineer could hack that shield or Aura station which would remain friendly until destroyed. The trade-off would be slower repair times (only slightly faster than a regular merc with the mechanic augment) than the other engineers and an inability to plant bombs remotely of course. On top of that, it’d have some sort of beeping sound or visual electric pulsing trail to show the direction that the EV or bridge/door is being remotely repaired/hacked into from. I think being able to remotely repair from a reasonable, but still fairly close distance will change the dynamic of the game a lot. It’ll flush out choke points and make the defense pursue more rather than setting up camp behind the EV in one area.

Anything along these lines:

!

!

If my primary ability idea sucks, what about a deployable repair bot?

!

For weapons, I’d like this engineer to have a bit more range and be more of a tanky, offensive capable engineer with less emphasis on running straight to the objective whilst jumping around like a bunny and hoping not to die. I’d give it the Anhuld, Shar-C or Timik, and Dreiss if we’re to choose from current weapons in game. 120 HP and armor that’s more resistant to fire, concussion, and the snitch/heartbeat sensors than any other mercs.

Edit: Oh, forgot secondaries. Hmm. Simeon, Deagle, and an automatic. Tolen. Sure, why not? Melee weapons? Something new. Electric chains or a blunt weapon, Kukri, and a Stiletto or Beckhill? Kind of having a hard time imagining this merc as more of that rugged steampunk hacker/welder design or a high-tech theme. Idk.

Yep, think that’s about it. Brainstormed up an engineer for ya. Let me know what y’all think.

A close-mid range sharpshooter, like Gunslinger from Lawbreakers or CS:GO Deagle player.

I’ve given up maining Vassilli, since snipers in DB have no middle ground… Either they’re too good or too bad, depending on a player. The latest patch made them even harder to master… So there’s that.

Some merc like that would satisfy my preference.

I literally did not know this existed…I wish I could delete threads

Been on the Merc/Skin Suggestions area for a long time and I can assure you that hacking and ranged engineering have been discussed to death.

The issue with hacking is that it’s a niche ability that’s either OP or UP. Turning health stations and shields to your team in the middle of a gunfight would be crazy powerful if long ranged, but short-ranged? You might as well be dead. If it can hack through walls, that’s even worse.

Any form of ranged engineering is also OP. It’d make any merc with it a must-take on the offense and possibly even the defense on every single map, as you can plant C4 in rediculous positions depending on the range and repair from completely safe places. Deployable repair bots further worsen the problem by allowing you ignore teamwork and just protect your own bot with your gun.

I’d rather core game mechanics (plant locations and repair range) to not be messed with for the same reason I also dislike merc ideas that boost speed or hand out armor.

That’s fair and I don’t necessarily disagree. My idea to limit the OP factor would be very slow equipment hack / EV repair / construct times as I stated in my first post. Slow enough that it’d be impractical in the middle of combat and slower than all of the other engineers, but a tad faster than a regular merc with the mechanic augment. Also, no ability to remotely plant or defuse any objective bombs whatsoever because that would be beyond game breaking. I just like the idea of a more assault focused merc with a some niche engineer utility. The range I mentioned for said abilities could be moderate. Maybe about 2 to 3 EVs length of distance with visual notifications or sounds to alert the enemy that a repair is happening.

Yeah though, all of this was just me thinking out loud. I haven’t followed the DB forums much until recently and had no idea this was a regular topic. I do think there are ways it could be implemented without it being too powerful, but hey, opinions are opinions and I’m not a dev’. I think it’d be a fun an interesting dynamic in the game.
