Are you talking about Phantom or Katana Only Phantom?
A real invisible cloaked melee-merc as he was introduced in the trailer. Not a guy with a visible force-shield full of bees, an SMG and a crippled melee.

You mean this trailer? The one that doesn’t introduce him as a melee only merc and only talks about introducing the Katana that will be used by other mercs in the future? Where does it say that he’s melee only? They even say refractive armor and “almost entirely invisible” specifically.
Let’s not turn this into a Phantom thread though so we should move to the Merc forum where there are already plenty of discussions on this topic.
This one. You see, you don’t see him at all. With the current situation Vassili would hear his cloak. Things change, but still. I wouldn’t mind no primary gun at all on Phantom. It would be much better imo because you could play a total different playstyle. Same for multiple mercs. Like Fletcher without a primary but with more Stickies. Technically like Sparks was made.
Edit: I mean, he looks like a Samurai, why wouldn’t he be a melee-main-merc in the first place?
That’s a CGI trailer and not a gameplay trailer. There are a ton of things in that trailer which aren’t accurate in regards to the actual game. Phantom also has a pistol only and Nader KO’s rhino with a single grenade among other things.
Did you watch this then get upset when StarCraft 2 didn’t look or play anything like this? That goes for almost every other game CGI trailer. Hell, that goes for trailers for movies too as they rarely represent what you actually get.
And the trailer showed him stabbing one Vassili in the back and wasn’t fully invisible while doing it. In fact, he was VERY visible. Looked like a ghost/apparition and he’s harder to see in the game right now. Otherwise he was shooting (a pistol) or not even cloaked in that trailer.
I get that some people want the TF2 spy in Dirty Bomb. I am simply not one of them. I dislike the low amount of skill it required pre-patch and how cheap it is to both use and to die to. I don’t play TF2 for a couple of reasons and the spy is one of those reasons.
Phantom requires some intelligence to play now to maximize your effectiveness with the cloak so that you have the upperhand in almost all fights. Also, crossing parts of a map with a ton of people shooting in the area makes the cloak invaluable as a shield since you don’t take any real damage and lets you easily flank without reduced HP which no other merc can accomplish. It’s also great for some crazy escapes.
He also has a Kek10. One of the best weapons in the game. And I believe Phoenix also has access to the Kek10 which makes this post about Phoenix and making it not completely off-topic…I swear. I am excited to have access to a medic with a Kek though.
