New Merc: Gunnar

Appearence: Not sure about appearance but I feel like an enthnicity that isn’t already in the game would be nice (MORE AUSSIES PLS)

Health: 130-140

Speed: 410

Class: Fire-support

P-Weaponry: Hochfir, Blishlok, Crotzni

S-Weaponry: Caulden, M9, One of the revolvers

Melee: Beckhill, stiletto, Cricket Bat

Ability 1: A deployable MG, deployable on chest high cover (Windowsills, guard railings etc). Works the same as the mounted MGs already in place but with an ammo pool of around 100-150 bullets. Obviously can be destroyed with enough damage (maybe a touch stronger than a bush turret). (Can be used by any merc friend or foe) not sure on recharge delay but it should be fairly severe, maybe 45sec or so AFTER the MG has been destroyed or reclaimed.

Ability 2: Ammo station.

My reasoning behind this merc is that I personally love the satisfaction of mowing down the opposing team with the mg nests but feel they are too few and far between. Plus I’ve noticed are a lot of empty windowsills and railings that would be PERFECT for an MG, think the window on the opposite from the barricade secondary objective of Bridge. He fits nicely opposite bush with rhino seperating them. Bush having full movement after setting up a stationary ai, rhino having limited movement but heavy fire-power and Gunnar having heavier fire-power but no movement. Thoughts?

I actually had the same exact idea, so I can only approve of this one. A deployable MG would make something like the Cool augment much better and usable. It would also create new tactics depending on where your deploy it.

I actually didn’t know about that character before posting, but he is very much my fav for defence and i guess my merc idea could be used in a similar fashion, depending on whether the mg is able to be used on a tripod or has to be deployed on already existing cover.

Well in R6Siege his MG can be put anywhere as long as it’s on the ground and that mg doesn’t have a cooldown but does have an ammo limitation about 100 bullets. Yours in general functions the same but with the cooldown of course but why not make a bit special like make it deal more damage at the cost of the slower fire rate?

I guess an ammo cap would be a good way of balancing it, I mean having an mg set up in one spot all game shredding people seems a bit unfair. I did kind of like the idea of having to put it on cover first tho, just because that limitation gives the ability some drawbacks. If you could deploy it anywhere, then the person on the mg is just a manually operated bush turret. That last idea is good I’m just not sure by how much it should be slowed down and how much harder it should hit, I reckon roughly as fast as fraggers mg (477rpm) (forgot the name I never use it) with the damage of the caulden (19dam)?

Add a severe recharge and the ability for the opponent to destroy said MG, and it’s a decent idea. We don’t want anyone using it to block objectives like turtle’s shield. Also, glitches may be involved if the MG disappears or is destroyed while someone is using it - that’s more for the devs to consider, however. Good idea though. Would love to see this implemented. - otherwise, how would you counter more than one MG set up in a safe spot all acting as super-bushwacker turrets? The teamspam of this merc on free rotations would be painful.

well explosives could easily destroy the mgs and the people on the mgs because of the time it takes to get on and off of them, plus mgs are easy picking for snipers, and who isnt a pain when teamspammed? This rotation has been nothing but stickies and im losing my mind XD

Think last point on underground or any part of terminal. - Also, it would reduce the usefulness of bushwacker to some degree. Slight concern.

I feel like a large enough cooldown would rectify that, if the cooldown started AFTER the mg had been destroyed it wouldn’t be such a concern. If the mg were only deployable on cover i don’t think it would really effect bush too much. Engineer abilities are all pretty much traps, placed just out of view to catch people off guard, Gunnars mg would be in obvious positions, windows, railings etc. Plus bushs turret is automated so he can be off helping his team while the turret keeps watch on flank routes etc. Someone HAS to be at the mg for it to work, so you have a stationary player on a high dps weapon (gunnar) and a mobile player with a stationary ai. Plus I feel like the turret is more of an indoors type ability while the mg is more suited for large sightlines.

Rhino already does that and has less range: why bother using rhino anymore?

Rhino is essentially a mobile sentry-gun in my experience. In my mind he fits nicely between both extremes. Bush having full movement after using his ability but the turret is stationary, gunnar having no movement but a shittonne of firepower after using his, and rhino can move whilst using his ability. Rhinos minigun is pretty much a super inaccurate mg anyway.

The deployable hit box acting as a wall takes a lot away from Turtle’s appeal. (If he’s ever released.)

How so? Mgs dont really cover that much and since they will be deployed on already made cover they will have the same cover as a usual mg. Plus turtles shield is more of a make a choke point more chokepointier ability.

Go stand in front of an MG and toss stickies at it - the hitbox is way bigger than you think. - More than enough to block off a route: not to mention the torrent of bullets that can be thrown from one. (I find the MG above terminal last to be a good test-subject.)

How would it block routes if it can only be deployed on pre-existing cover? Also it can be destroyed by a couple of stickies and its gone for 45sec
