(metho) #1

hey guys i have been mapping for like a month now so im still new to alot of stuff still
i have a problem in my map my is based underground and i want the map to be dark but not to dark so i used _minlight and it lit up my map the way i like but when i went to take a screenshot of the map in the screen shot it was all dark i don’t know what the problem is it looks fine in game but not on screenshots will this effect other players when they donwload my map? :???:

if someone could help i would be very thankful

screenshots are always darker then in in-game (don’t ask me why) and i don’t think you can do anything about it in ET, just brighten them up with a program like photoshop or some other photo editing program

thax weebull i thought it mite of been an error on my part but thax again

(BloodLusts) #4

screens are always darker then in-game due to the fact that in ET

ET actually uses your Computers brightness settings – if u play windowed when u open ET u will notice ur desktop gets brighter thats Y
lol

so after shots are taken they dont keep that brightness etc…

metho for you map could i surgest light entity with the nonlinear flag checked

this alows me to use pretty small light values but effect a large area so you can get gentl low lighting

thax guys for the help and info to help me better my lighting

I disagree on the _minlight.

Instead use ambient (a value of 10 for a start) and _color (value 1 1 1 for a start, but you can change this to a color that matches the atmosphere of your map).

For gentle fading of light entities you can also use the key/value fade / 0.5 (or lower) and give the light a low value of 50 or so.

About the screenies: your standard r_gamma in the game is 1.3, but the screenies are taken with 1.0. If you brighten the screenies up to a gamma of 1.3 you pretty much get what you see when playing.
