New Map Project - Monte Cassino

Hi i’ve started making a map called Monte Cassino. It’s bassed on a real abbey in Italy where lots of fighting went on in 1944/45…

anyone got any info on the battles that happened there?
I use the official website for info right now.
The map won’t be based on a total copy of the abbey because that wouldn’t be a good map (gameplay). Until now I only made a sketch on paper and looked at the pictures.

What do you think of the idea?

Allies (attack):

  • get to the first spawn point (a small house)
  • blow the gates / or build assault laders near the walls
  • blow up the command station

Axis (defend)

  • get to first axis spawn point (near the gates)
  • build protection around the command station
  • destroy aasault ladders

In bf1942 the road to rome is also a monte cassino. If you own that game, maybe you could look at it. Btw nice idea :slight_smile:

Someone made a Monte Cassino for regular RTCW. Not that there is anything wrong with having another for ET.

that’s quite an incredible map, Vexar. Maybe I’ve been living under a rock or something–has anybody played it? Does it play as well as it looks? That’s something, dude–you should be proud.

Yes, very nice. But what Vexar failed to mention was, he is a professional level designer, and this is an official map for Breakthrough. :smiley:

All in all, it’s visually breathtaking!

Damn straight–we could use something badass to really give the ET community a third-party kick in the pants. As it stands now, 90% of servers out there are only running the six standard maps–which is fine, I guess, because SD did such a fine job crafting those maps, but still… you get what I mean, right?

Well this is my last map for the quake3 engine for any game. The reason I posted on q3world is that I have a lot of friends there, and the reason I posted here was because one of my buddies told me someone was going to make a monte cassino map, so I wanted to give them something to shoot for as far as what I did with location. I also looked over the BF version of Monte Casino, and attempted to build the whole mountain at first, then dumped that idea for what it is now.

Good luck with your mapping! If I do anything it will be to give splash damage a Doom3 map for MP. :slight_smile:
