New Map: Pong

(bloodwire) #1

Like the title says, pong, it’s all about getting that bounchy square to go into your enemies defences. But first you have to blow them up, and whilst doing so make sure you keep yours up.

This is a splash and gut map, with a very small open playfield and no place to hide. I’ve been running the beta on arctic warfare alpha a few days and I think I’ve gotten most of the tweaks out of it by now. More information and fullsize screenshots are available at:

direct download of the map is available at:

I just released a new version of the map (pong_v3) - with new gory colours and a few changes, the map source is also available. Just go to http://ekran.no/aw/ and press ET:pong on the left hand menu for more information.

Here’s some new screenshots:

Lol… No, I’m not a pro. I’ve been mapping for quite a while, but after you get through the frustration of figuring out how things work (it’s quite a frustration because there is no single recipee book for how to write maps.) - but once you piece that together and make a few test maps, trying out different things, you can make almost anything you want.

Take a look at my first map at:

http://www.student.uit.no/~paalde/games/aw/maps/etmain/frostytest_v1.pk3

it’s horrible, but I think I spent a few days doing that, and even though it doesn’t have a light trace, it’s still playable, atleast in teory

My advice is to start out simple, and be playful about what you do. Searching out information about how to do things can be quite painful, but once you get the hang of it and know where to look, it’s not much of a problem, really.
