[New idea] MapPlotter - yes or no?
Something like AutoCAD would probably be just as useful…

anyway, all that talk of drawing maps on paper reminded me of something I saw a while ago… Some guy had written a tool to take drawings and turn them into Quake maps. So you’d draw the outline of the map on paper, with doors and different entities being signified by different colours. Then you’d scan the drawing and the tool he’d written would turn the image into a .map file.
lol lol something like autocad, than you get GTKradiant :stuck_out_tongue:

try Revit instead, it will replace autocad ove the years too btw

No it wont, if anything will be replaced, it will be revit and co.

I recently tried using AutoCAD to produce 2D topography map layouts and find it pretty awesome.

aaa4 is back? And bumping old threads too, I see :3

… damn i’m allways reading “HarryPotter” instead of MapPlotter … !spank my old eyes

hehe well i am a 3D cad engineer for work too =), and all i see is a lot of companies are now going from autocad to revit (including ours)

AutoCAD will never go, for 2D that is, as 3D tool it is pants yeah but the likes of revit and inventor (what I use) will eventually be replaced by one single tool set for all areas of industry and you just pick which bits you like to use when you install it.

Either way making 2D plans of maps in AutoCAD for me is rather good way of producing plans quickly to which I can modify with ease and get player’s opinions from and further alter in short time span.

Offtopic though, in another discussion we talked about getting models from revit/inventor, if you export as .sat file and open that in AutoCAD and then use ‘3dsout’ you get fairly decent .3ds model which you can open in blender, sometimes though it messes up the normals though and you have to flip some right way around.

i wouldnt recommend import/export radiant features. i simply would recommend a small tool, not more then 5 mb, making it possible to draw straight lines, and the ability to group things together e.g. a building, marking things etc. it would be an enormous boost for community, open source, concept mapping.

or simply a brainstorm map which you draw with this tool, everybody add some stuff, and in the end one could decide to map it. simply for working out plans/concepts in an open source way.

and didnt want to revive this thread again. this simply didnt leave me alone somehow. great idea and would be really useful :stroggtapir:

edit: and radiant can do the same, of course. but you cant reach the community with such a complicated tool. poor noobs wouldnt even know how to open radiant :>

OP: 25th May 2009, 21:03 - Don’t think he’s still working on it.

(aaa4) #29

what you think is of minor importance.

(Darkix) #30

Coming from the double accounter who got banned already. Should I call you aaa3 or aaa4? I’m guessing both are you.

(aaa4) #31

darkix. everything is alright. i have no problem with you. just keep it ontopic. its not important what you say.

also i recommend you to accept the fact, that there is an objective truth existing. one simply floating, beeing independently true, independend from me, the world and all the subjects existing. so it doesnt matter that there is someone, speaking that truth, you dont like :>

So basically you’re telling me to keep on topic, but my opinion means little to nothing. Crawl back under your rock, please.

no. i did tell you what you are not able to understand. you brain is way too 98, meaning that there are structures condemning structures, which are against all your imagination. and imagination for 98% of all human beeings one day becomes to the ability to anticipate.

you see. what you cant anticipate is against imagination, and what you cant think of simply will become a thread to you, hence you condemn me to be a troll.

think about it. you are just a flag in the wind.
