New ET map Silly CTF, final

Hi,

I’ve been working on this small map here to get used to the new features in ET. It’s a small map for 2v2 up to maybe 4v4, the game is more like ctf than misson and is meant as a “silly” map, for warmups before clan matches etc but its’s a tense map with lots of up close action. Not saying that it couldn’t be usefull in other situations but it’s untested.

Oh and btw, the map file is included in the package if you want to check how I did it, just for all the new mappers out there. :cool:

Wow…that’s…really, really good. I will use this map a lot for vs. with my friends…

sob I suck…I can’t even make anything close to resembling this. :frowning: I need like a tutor to come to my house and tell me what to do…

But, as you probably already will be doing, I just suggest adding more voices and perhaps a little more straightforward routes to get ot the other side. Maybe I just rushed through it quick (only played for 5 minutes or so), but it seemed like the only route I could take was the castle tower and then dropping down.

But still very good.

ya, my bad, just played with a friend and it was great fun. i need more people to play with! if we had 3v3 or even 4v4 this would be great fun.

Looks great mate!

Need an “objective secured” voice. Didn’t play vs so can’t comment much on the gameplay - but it might be worth making the crate jump across the fence a little harder - maybe add some barbed wire.

Great map, looking forward to spam on it!
Only thing i can think of is that it´s very easy and very short ways between the goldcrates. Maybe something for an engineer to blow up to make the shortest passage open. Like the doors in the mid building perhaps.

Aha! I like. No boring textures, well designed. Altough, as Dakir mentioned, it’s too easy to get the gold crates. Maybe less routes to it, or destroyable routes. Keep it up! :chef:

I don’t know if I want to add things for an engineer to blow up or construct though, the idea from start was to make something that brings up close 1on1 fights with a high tempo. I think adding a blowable door for example only slows the game down instead. I need to try that barbwire idea though, that might be a good thing though.

Added more details (just some bushes).
Added atmospheric sounds.
Added objective captured voice.

I could really really need some help with hinting the basement though :banghead: :slight_smile: Dunno if I would gain much from it but it draws more than it should do of it imo.

Just to point out one thing, the spawn time is 15 seconds. More often than not; if you kill a defender when attacking he will respawn before you have a chance to get away with the gold. So it’s not as easy to steal it as it looks like, the thing I would like to stop is the multi gold crates your team can take at the same time, but I don’t have any ideas of how to stop it. If it’s even possible?

Good map Lanz, amazing caulking & in all those inbetween spots :banana:

so I looked for a post about lighting and didn’t find a specific one, so now I’m askin you… how’d ya do it? heh heh

no really, I see you don’t have regular ambient lights all over the place, only spots to target specific areas, how come the environment is lit? where is the light coming from? I must be compiling wrong, cause my maps come out dark?
I have to put lights all over the place, some1 straighten me out!

any lighting info, links, help please…

That’s easy to fix, what you do is that you add an ambient light value and color to the worldspawn of the map besides the regular lights.

Select an ordianary brush and press N to bring up the entity window, now the worldspawn entity should be selected. Add a key called ambient and a value of max 15 - 20, too much and the whole map will look washed out, only use it to get rid of those pitch dark shadows. Then you can add _color key that holds the color of the ambient light, 3 values from 0.0 to 1.0 (normalized values) for r g b. (1.0 1.0 1.0 is bright white).

Nothing more to it! Oh and don’t forget that the sky shader light up the open areas! :moo:

Great map!! We just finished about 45 min on this map (4v4) and we had a blast!! This is a true CTF map…took us a while to get the ryhthm down, as we’re used to regular ET. I can’t think of anything that I would change…well, perhaps some way of indicating how many gold crates have been taken/stolen…

IMHO, adding things like destroyable doors, etc. would defeat the purpose of this CTF map.

This is one of those simple yet fun maps that hopefully we’ll see some more of (I was told this was a conversion of one from RtCW?).

It’s silly sure but it makes you rethink how to play ET. You can’t do the normal tactics or at least it’s very hard. I started by playing as an eng on this, laying mines at the chokepoints and door entrances but by the time and enemy spawns they can get over to your side in no time and nail you while trying to mine. It’s a killfest but fun.

4v4 is just about right on this. Although I would love to try this with 12v12 or 16v16. Would be pretty hairy.

Barbed wire across the fence in the middle would be good. YOu can run straight out of the spawn and bunny-hop across the crates over the fence too easily.

Fun map and would like to see more like this this. The 20-45 minute full blown battles are great, but this is great for relieving tension and just getting your ET rocks off for a 5-10 minutes.

Talkin about knowing how many gold crates is left etc, anyone else missing those simple flags up to the left from rtcw? Sure the new system in ET is much better but the previous system was so easy to see and have control over. The only way now, is to make your own voice comments (bad idea, I’m a swede and not exactly an actor), using text messages (it works but no one reads them, too hard to see), or… is there a third way I’ve missed?

I tried to add some barbed wire across the fence, sounded good but tbh I prefer it better as is. Fast games, easy asscess, no hassle. Next map will probably be a bit more complex. :slight_smile:
