New defintion of Internet Troll.

(signofzeta) #1

You may know of a definition of the Internet troll whose purpose is to make others angry etc.

But a new definition might be this. Someone who puts up so much factual evidence about something, that nobody else can make counter points. Hence the losers call the winner a troll to boost one’s ego.

I wonder if this is actually true. Because a lot of discussions, I disagree with something, try to prove them wrong, and then they can’t counter-argue, then BLAM, they use the word troll. I guess proving somebody wrong with so much factual evidence is actually a troll post, because it makes the opposing side a little angry that they can’t find a counterpoint.

Like remember the time with the console controller vs keyboard and mouse? And that none of us used the word troll against each other because we accept what the other side has to say, instead of letting one’s own ego take control of the argument?

It’s funny how the word “troll” has become a bail out term.

The same can be said from real life. Imaging a guy who is a super genius, and you say something, and he counters with so much factual evidence, that your brain starts to explode, then you tell the guy to shut up? Same idea here.

So hmm, are all geniuses trolls?

(Nail) #2

nope, they’re not geniuses, they just beat you down to their level and try to conquer with experience. The best counter is ignoring the bait

(Slade05) #3

Yes, in todays interwebz they start calling you troll to justify their lack of arguments.

(tokamak) #4

Is this still about that doomguy guy?

Zeta mate, I know I’m guilty of becoming to attached to discussions myself but seriously, try letting stuff like this go so you can focus on what you really care about.

(signofzeta) #5

yeah, I can’t let go of it. But for me, I never use the word troll, even if it was a troll post, because to me, I ignore troll posts, and I only respond to posts that I don’t think are troll posts, that are totally against my point of view.

So other than the obvious post to make others angry, troll posts also include highly intellectual posts, and posts that make negative remark about something. Apparently that is what it is. As long as someone gets angry, it becomes a troll post. It is a shame though.

Could you imagine, in real world debating? Where someone says something highly intellectual, with proven facts, and the opposition says, “Government is a Troll”?

But that guy whom I disagree with, and I can’t post in that thread anyway. Well since most of the posts there are deleted, there is no reason for me to stay there. But in all seriousness, who calls someone a troll, who totally disagrees with them, and their rebuttal does not have proven facts to back things up?

I’m starting to think that in every situation, troll = a word someone says who just got burned, so they use that word as a bail out.

Any smart person would see past troll posts, and would easily laugh it off, or ignore it. Only gullible people use the word troll, other than the mystical creature.

Looking at similar threads about trolls from other forums, once someone labels your minority opinion as a troll post, your opinions, based on observed fact, or researched facts, are ignored.

But the funny thing is, my POV on that thread was that, these kinds of threads of battling one fictional character with another will spiral out of control, because someone is bound to make some false statement about that character just to make that character seem stronger, without using the literature to back it up, and that using science from the real life universe, rather than the fictional universe doesn’t give a fair assessment of the character’s actual abilities.

Then the other guy says, “this is a DISCUSSION THREAD”, and “you are a TROLL”. I’m surprised that I haven’t used the word “HYPOCRITE”. Why? I was discussing how their ideas are wrong, and thus I was labeled a troll because they don’t agree with me.

But I guess my posts are troll posts in the end anyway, well because I’m laughing at the guy’s lack of knowledge and his lack of debating skills to prove me wrong. I also guess I have a high on trying to accentuate someone’s lack of debating skills.

I also really need to get out of there.

As I was saying in the other thread, if I join a server and go around telling everyone that the game they’re playing sucks and they should go play my favorite game because it requires skill and is realistic then I am a troll. It doesn’t matter that metacritic rates my game a 90 and theirs a 45. I should, instead, go play my game elsewhere.

Yeah, it happens everyday on this forum too

2 situation :

  • Saying “you are a troll” when you have no backup is like punching a guy in the face when you ran out of arguments , its the ultimate shortcut for any idiot… Still its refreshing!

  • Saying “you are a troll” when you are so damn bored by this bloody idiot is like punching a guy in the face when he’s too stupid to even try to understand what you are telling , its the ultimate shortcut to any infinite discussion… and Oh its soooo time saver and so damn refreshing!

Peace

lol, if it was a face to face discussion, and “you are a troll” equates to punching someone in the face, it’d be funny if the person making intellectual arguments was bigger than the guy who is doing the punching.

Too bad I’m not big myself, which is why I don’t call anyone trolls.

(Apples) #9

Since when do you need to be big to hit someone in the face? Well you’ll prolly loose, its not the matter

(signofzeta) #10

lol, I dunno, maybe if you try to punch a big guy in the face, and depending on how angry and retaliating he gets, the big guy will most assuredly turn the smaller guy into a mangled corpse.

Just sayin.

Internet Anonymity FTW, or FTL however you take it.

But another thing with Internet anonymity is, if you went to a heated debate in a forum, but you finally realize your opponent in the forum is actually your best friend in real life, do you:

  1. Drop the forum debate immediately?
    or
  2. Turn your best friend into your worst enemy?

(Apples) #11

My best friend is my best friend mostly cuz :

A: we allways debate, and trust me its hawter than anything you can see in a forum (mmmm this phrase will get me quoted for ages)

B: we sometime hit ourselves across the face (with our fists heh! just sayin ;))

See, A doesnt imply that B is impossible  Its not black or white!

And dont get me wrong it wasnt aimed towards you, I often loose vs big guyz too, but who care if he at least lost his nose / eye whatever, just smash ala hulk, think later (during your hospital night)

Peace

in any fight, verbal or physical, skill will usually trump size

(signofzeta) #13

usually strength triumphs, but quickness is also a key factor, but if you are a nerd who hides behind an internet persona, you have neither strength nor speed, so the odds of a nerd winning a fist fight is slim to none.

Intellect does no justice in a fist fight anyway. By the time you think of a way to attack your opponent, you’d already be lying on the street.

But a good way to defeat a big guy is to T-bag the guy. It works every time. hahahahaha.

A smart frail guy can use silly tricks to get at the big guy, but in the end, the big guy is just only going to punch the frail guy harder.

In a fight against a big dumb guy vs a little smart guy, usually the little smart guy thrives on mental damage, while the big dumb guy thrives on physical damage. But the big dumb guy is dumb, in a way that the mental damage does not really work, because this usually leads to a response with the fist. A small smart guy can’t really retaliate after he got beat up, well, because he does not have the strength to get up. All he could do is just lay in the hospital bed, thinking of what he could have done.

I mean, if you are weak, as in no muscle like myself, have you had a muscular person punch your arm, and the pain would stay there for a long time? If you tried to punch a muscular person with your weak fists, you’d hurt your own fist. I tried that when my cousin told me to get more ripped.

it takes 6 pounds of pressure to break a patella, that will incapacitate most people regardless of size

Bruce Lee was 5 ft 7, weighed 135 pounds, a small man with SKILL

yeah, that’s cuz he has skill. He could probably kung fu everybody’s ass if he wanted to.

But usually internet bullies, are such, because they are actually weak in real life. I mean, they get beat up, so they bully the only people they can bully. Size and skill don’t matter if the victim doesn’t know who you are.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but people who do have the power to beat someone up, usually don’t use the internet to bully people, but then again, I’m making this up. They just don’t feel that using the internet to damage someone’s feelings is as effective as doing it physically.

I made this assumptions, because those who bully through the internet, are usually nerds. And nerds don’t play sports, or are picked last in gym class. And if they don’t do sports, or weight lift, or stuff like that, then they don’t have strength, not to mention, that they don’t have any kung fu skill. Therefore they become weak.

What really destroys a nerd is to sever his connection to his bullying. Get some big dude to come in, and smash his computer. That is usually how to defeat nerds. Because no computer = no internet = no forum = no calling people names through the forum.

But if you smash a skilled fighter’s computer, then the fighter will just beat you up.

If you smash, no offense to the african american community, a black guy who lives in the hood’s computer (like they have any), then they probably will shoot you.

Do that to a nerd, then they are powerless. I also have come to assume that once you can do sports, then you no longer become a nerd, no matter how much time you spend on a computer. And no, ultimate Frisbee does not count. That’s cause all my nerd friends who don’t want to be nerds play that sport, while all the stronger classmates played hockey.

But imagine this. Someone brags how he has the best PC ever. Best GFX card, best sound, accumulated the best parts, spending over $2000.

Now what would the reaction of that PC’s owner would be if that PC were to be destroyed? Would he go, it’s ok, it’s all good, just re-buy them, or would he just cry?

as I said, skill wins over size
